Merrett looked the goods, enjoyed watching him play. Hurley up forward I thought worked well, and Daniher roaming further up in the 4th. Goddard was everywhere. The bit that I noticed was the number of kicks that fell short and resulted in pressure on a player to retrieve and not have that extra...
He's never been hugely dominant around the ground. It's interesting, across the board our team are tackling less this season - so some of those pressure act stats will be down for all our players. We're a bit more uncontested and relying on good delivery and space - it may have a knock on...
It is, but structurally we'd be a bit short up front for the long kicks if we don't have a contested marker in there. Clarke trains with the forwards so at least would be able to step into Pav's role. You're right, it's not optimal - and the more likely scenario is that he's in as emergency for...
Yeah that's fair. Neale is an interesting one. He's been playing pure inside this season, with the exception of the Sydney game where he apparently had a flu and rarely was in the contest (ended up with 9 possessions). He's got lightning hands when getting the ball out of a scrap (against West...
Walters may, Pav might be held over reading between the lines. He took a hit in the Sydney game too. Both are genuine tests this week. Depends on how conservative the club wishes to be. Out of the two, Walters is easiest to replace
Walters isn't fast, but deceptive and very very clever. He's one of our best kicks and evasive, so having him out hurts. Potential replacements in say crozier or Duffy are fast, clever, high half forward opportunistic types so speed will still be there, just not the same quality hitups.
Incidentally - hope you guys don't mind me posting here :) I see you have a banter thread but i'm not a banter kinda guy ;) Would rather talk about the game, structures, forecasts, stats
We won't be playing a tagger this time around, but our clearances have also improved by not having Crowley in there. We'll either have Clancee running a soft tag to keep a player accountable, or just go head to head in the midfield which would be fun
Yeah its an intetesting one. We're obviously pretty confident right now that we can take it to any team, with some games more challenging. I think from a supporter point of view I have a lot of respect for essendon - since you beat us on our turf :) it will be interesting to see how both sides...
We have a habit of playing at the level of our opponents during periods. Our second quarter vs Melbourne was abysmal. They rolled over in the 4th which flattered the score. You're one of very few teams to beat us on our deck in the last few seasons. The game was a bit of a comedy of errors - it...
Small forwards are there at the drop of the ball behind the pack. The tall targets then have an option of taking the mark or bringing it to ground for the crumber. It's the natural goal sense and timing at the contest of a crumber that makes them more effective than a resting mid
If Walters and pav drop, we may see 2 of mzungu, crozier (for Walters), Sheridan come in with a reshuffle. We don't have a decent KPF to replace pav with taberner already in. Next KPF for us is apeness - who is still learning in the 2nds. May end up playing smaller
It's messy isn't it. I hate the idea of distractions affecting a pure contest. Would love to beat you guys in the clear ;) Any win now will be tainted by 'maybe they were distracted'
In that light - I wish your club and the supporters the very best this season and hope the s**t the media are...
If they go with Kep for this game he'll be a fun match up - leads hard up the ground for a tall and is difficult to predict since he doesn't know what he's going to do next half the time. Entertaining to watch :) and cringeworthy at times too :)
What we're trying to say is that we don't rely on one of our forwards to get on top - we have enough spread in contributors, so your assertion about our ability to kick a winning score is flawed :P
Actually that's a bit backwards - Pav started firing because we finally figured out our structures, our mids were being played into form and delivery to the forward line was improved. Don't forget last season was our first under Lyon.
The first half of the season we sucked - underdone mids...
