I'm not super bullish on our 2019 chances yet. I think we bounce back into finals but as of right now we haven't tangibly improved our team via trade week. Whereas most of our competitors have with a big recruit or making the most of a bad hand.
Richmond have added one of the most promising...
Weitering was great in his first season. But his development has regressed since then. Even the best talent will struggle in a bad environment.
They didn't balls up the pick, the messed up the development.
Eddie will never get back to his 2016 best, age will stop him there. 75 goals across a season is ridiculous for a small forward, well any forward in this era.
But he can still be an above average small forward and kick 40 odd a year over the next season or so. You can regress as an elite...
I've enjoyed his season and think he's one of the positives to take out of a bad year.
I do agree to free him up this week. Carlton aren't AFL standard so he should stand well to have increased output if given the opportunity.
Give him something to ponder over the off season.
I think what we want next year is the jump Ollie Florent has made at Sydney this year.
He went from a kid that showed flashes last year, but mostly looked like he was struggling with the pace of AFL to a genuine role player. Showcasing his dash and skill this year while getting a lot more of...
Gooch is one of the players that is going to benefit from this disappointing season.
He's getting a lot of games under his belt which will fast track his development for next year when we take another real shot at it.
Lever will turn it around, he's still a good player. He just can't be the #1 defender, once Goodwin learns how to utilise him then he'll be fine.
But until then I'll enjoy the Melbourne melts while they work it out :D
Did anyone go down the WatchAFL/Global Crow path in 2018?
I have been out at pubs and such for the first two games of the season, but want to get Watch AFL pass which I did in 2017.
Ideally, I would do this via the Adelaide Global Crow membership, which is cheaper and also sending money to...
I feel like it is age catching up with him a bit, he's heading towards 300 games by the end of this season.
He has clearly lost a step, as he can't kick further than 45m at this point and I'm not sure he can do that reliably at this point.
That being said, plenty of small forwards stay...
You made this point last year. But we paid the market rate for a ruckman that was seeking a new opportunity. A market rate that you helped set in the years prior with the Warnock deal with Fremantle. Also the Mumford deal to Sydney could also be cited and the year or so after we traded Maric to...
Luke Ball in 2009.
Pies offered their second round pick, it was rejected by St Kilda so they ended up using that pick to draft him in the National Draft.
Melbourne had some pretty bad luck with injuries, life events, etc.
Viney & Hogan were pretty banged up for most of the year. Add those two fully fit along with Lever and they're right in that 3-7 bracket on the ladder.
But it's going to be fun death riding them next year and adds some spice...
Gibbs is a more flexible player than Thommo, Gibbs can move to HBF with relative ease in his 30s. Thommo was a centre or bust player, so his ability to contribute dropped off as he couldn't transition into other positions.
The issue I think with Gibbs is I am worried about paying for what he...
Deledio was a future first. Given Gibbs durability then he's worth a first + something else that Carlton can spin as a win for holding out for.
I'd give up a 1st + 2nd and not give it much thought to get it done. But I don't expect Carlton to come to the party again so we'll see how it plays out.
Gibbs would be our 3rd best midfielder behind Sloane and Matt. He'd be ahead of Brad for at least a season or two and easily ahead of anyone else in our current squad. Greenwood and Gibbs would complement each other a lot, it would allow Gibbs a bit more time on the outside than his current...
It has become rule on our board that as soon as someone signs/leaves another thread must immediately be started with the next player on the list.
Therefore a 'Re-sign Matt Crouch' thread cannot be started until Jake Lever announces where he's off to post finals.
