    RDFL 2016 Season discussion

Then you've got the issue of the RDFL having different goals from AFL Goldfields. I'd argue the primary focus of the RDFL is is strong and healthy competition amongst its constituent clubs. For AFL Goldfields, they really come into line under AFL Victoria and the AFL itself. Its mantra is to...

That was from the Ballarat courier start of the year and was talking about the BFL, big picture Rod Ward on the article, so you would assume it applies to all goldfield leagues

Well that was a poor example on my part! However all that tells me is that the EDFL haven't really implemented the points system. Having spoken with Steve Williams in the past about points, all the emphasis was on stopping rapid player movements. It was also mentioned at a recent meeting that...

Given the spend in those sorts of leagues, they are more likely to attract highly rated footballers and they cost more points The point system isn't around to make leagues weaker or stronger, it's around to stop players shifting constantly between clubs and keep the teams within a competition...

Points will go down - everyone this year was rated as if they had transferred in. I dont know what the final points will be for the average club, maybe low thirties. As for the 'five pointer' wanting more money or he will walk - He will be of less value to other clubs than 'your club', that's...

In an addition to the above, the league rules are "The Senior competition shall be strictly an 18 player per side competition with 4 players on the interchange bench", which while a little vague means the league do have an avenue to take action against clubs should they play with less than 22...

Yeah - the point allocations will be going down over the next couple of years. Points were allocated this year as if everyone had transferred in and regardless of whatever point value they had, which is based firstly on whether you came from your junior club and then from the strength of any...

Seems everyone was at the GG today - I got down for the last quarter as well, Wallan looked very impressive

I think the league have realised that the strict enforcement of the junior review this year was a bit too harsh. I know of one team that was forced to play in a comp that they were really nowhere near, ended up getting smashed every week and as a result lost a lot of their players, including all...

Even with a fine, you may end up ahead- at $700 a team for netball + umpire fees + costs associated with match day you would have to charge rego at $120 per player to break even. Compare that to the flat $70 charged per player by the MRNA, it becomes hard to explain why a footy/netball club has...

Hopefully changing for the better in that regard, the Junior Advisory Group is being reconstituted to advise the league and board on matters junior. Composition of the JAG is yet to be decided. They may yet go with the old model of three reps, one for the big clubs, one for the medium sized...

Macedon was what I was thinking of. In the 90's they had no money, they had no paid staff and the guys playing were playing just becuaue they wanted a game of footy, subsequently they were thrashed each week. But during that time, they built a camraderie and once the club had some money, they...

I believe the former, given the context of the statement which was more about teams in other Goldfield Leagues with Rockbank the only RDFL club in that boat.

    RDFL 2016 Season discussion

Its all speculation, the RDFL is generally in good health, with only Rockbank just about ready 'to raise the white flag'. This is contrast to other goldfield leagues where the spend between clubs can be as much as six times higher than the lower teams and as many as five clubs are struggling...

Which will never happen, the RDFNL could help in other wys such as helping establish sponsorship opportunities and getting people like Aaron Nunn to spend time with the club in generating that as well as promotion in the immediate vicinity, granting of finals matches, potentially also...

That is the danger for the league - they do not want to lose Rockbank. Short term, ie next year, they will probably get a pretty generous points allocation and salary cap relief, but they will need money obviously. Not sure what the league can do there. After next year, the changes from the big...

Rockbank will be right, will struggle for a few years, but the league have talked about the strategic importance of Rockbank, the likely growth of the surrounding area and the need to keep the club established.

You can appeal once to have the life ban lifted - and generally that is granted - but if you get suspended again - there is no appeal allowed.

You can appeal to have a de-registration revoked in the 16 week rule, and from what I gather that appeal almost always succeeds, especially if your suspensions come from multiple small suspensions. However if you get suspended again, their is no appeal.

Personally I reckon Romsey Juniors are a well run club and they have done a tremendous job. The league runs the junior comp as if it is suburban league, and that is fine for the clubs within Gisborne, Sunbury and even Melton, not so great for the mid-sized towns who are too big for Beatson as...

From what I heard, the league were very nervous about the ground and only gave the green light on Thursday. Under 13's today at Airport West was entertaining, although the EDFL and WRFL were too strong

I do get the Melton location, I'd reckon this is being driven by AFL Goldfields rather the league and is part of their plans to get the participation rate up in Melton, which is around the worst in the state. I doubt any clubs outside of Melton with the exception of Eynesbury will participate...

Will be minimal - clubs will probably be asked to provide accounts, which will only be scrutinised should there be alarm set off somewhere else. The league does not have the resources to do anything more. There will be grey area paymets, eg, those made to injured players. There will be more...

Yes they do - every coach needs to have at least level 1 - I don't think the league would have automatic penalties, but it would start with loss of match points. They need the flexibility as some breaches could be inadvertent, for example lapsed accreditation and nobody noticed - to deliberately...
