Sydney were the biggest losers in that deal. They had pick 31 (courtesy of the Bulldogs) and on-traded it to Brisbane for Simon Hawking, who IIRC did not play a game for the Swans.
At least the Bulldogs have got a six year player out of the deal (same as Brisbane and Simon Black so far ;))...
Ben Harrison - pick 41, 2000 (Andrew Krakouer)
Trent Bartlett - Michael Martin
Josh Mahoney - Tyson Lane
Kingsley Hunter - Brad Wira
Matthew Robbins - picks 15 & 38, 1997 (Joel McKay, James Rahilly)
Simon Garlick - pick 31, 1997 (ontraded, ended up being Simon Black)
Simon Minton-Connell -...
Re: Re: Rhode to Get Help
How about Simon Beasley? Magnificent kick for goal, but he could also entice blokes to lift their game by placing a small compulsory wager on each kick at practice. ;)
Personally I reckon Gonzo is a turnover merchant, so I wouldn't even be asking for the second rounder... which is why I reckon we should trade him - other clubs would rate him higher than what he's worth. But hey, if you're wiiling to throw in a #18-20 pick, be my guest. :)
It's a pity points aren't deducted for exceptional ineptitude. You'd be 8 games clear of Carlton.
Their first half today is quite possibly the worst I have ever seen from any team, and I've seen North give and take a few beltings over the years. They were better in the second half, but only a...
Just had a look at the fixture for the remaining rounds, and I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that the Bulldogs can win the 2.5 games to bridge the gap between 15th and 16th.
Bulldogs draw :
Geelong (away)
Richmond (home)
Melbourne (home)
Essendon (neutral)
Fremantle...
Alvey is a player that I think would be about right for Morrell.
Morrell will never be a superstar, but he would be in your best 22, and importantly will provide a contest at CHF, and spread the opposition defence thinner by one tall player.
Personally I think he would make a good CHB too...
Just a little off-topic, is the Michael McLean that does around the ground work on Triple M's matchday coverage, the one and only "Magic" or just a bloke with the same name?
This one won't happen, that's for sure.
Essendon are still feeling the pinch of the salary cap (all that back-loading of contracts I presume), so I don't reckon they'll have room to accomodate Stevens even if Hird goes on to the veterans list.
Essendon was only last week highlighted in...
Once again, I come here as a neutral observer, but the prospect faced North last year as well after Pagan vacated the coaching spot.
There was a thread on the Essendon board about a month ago, stating a belief that Mark Harvey was on more money as an assistant at Essendon, than Dean Laidley...
I agree. Nothing wrong with a 6 foot FF if he kicks 60 a year, and only two or three blokes in the league kick more.
If he is your sole capable forward, it doesn't reflect on how he is playing, but on how your team as a whole plays. Trade him, and the team around you might improve through new...
Not quite.. the 10 year rule was introduced before the 1973 season, and scrapped in May 1973.
Dempsey did not transfer to North Melbourne until 1979. Having dug up a reference book to check ;), Sandilands also joined Collingwood well after the 10 year rule was scrapped, but Bissett did use it...
Hope you don't mind me butting in here... I think McGuane's character might be questioned because of a few instances of poor control of alcohol.
Coming from a piss-head like me, I'm not pre-judging him by any means, nor do I think it's a bad thing to be fond of a drink BUT if my memory serves...
Jim440 - The 1984 VFL Yearbook (for 1983 stats) has Purser at 193cm, 89kg. The 1988 VFL Yearbook (1987 stats) has Purser at 197cm, 95kg. Coincidentally, they were Purser's first and last seasons.
Almost a full squad to pick from. From memory, only Shannon Grant and the much-maligned Shane Clayton are injured, and were late withdrawals in Sundays AFL senior game, replaced by Wells and Rocca.
The Port squad from Satruday had the following AFL experience :
McCartney - 181 games, 13th...
Footscray got some fantastic players out of Gippsland, even some that played through until the mid to late 80s. Kennedy, Jennings. Edmond, Templeton, Dunstan, the Cordy brothers, Choco Royal, Wallis... just to name the best of them. I reckon that's an amazing record, even better than St.Kilda's...
Nup, definitely Bristow, but I see it's unlikely they were related.
There's a street (near the TAFE) and a park (on Pilgrim St) named after "Tramways Jack" - there was a significant piece on him in one of the local papers when he died about two years ago.
Actually (sorry to go off on...
Before my time, so it's just out of curiosity, do you know if he was a local boy? I used to live across the road from the Footscray councillor, the late Jack Bristow... just wondering if they might have been related.
Jim Sewell was great in his debut year (1983). Only played four seasons though, not a dud.
Bill Berry played for North for a year or two in the mid 80s, geez he was a battler (if that).
Throw in James Cook, Brenton Vilcins and Lynton Fitzpatrick...
What did everyone think of Skipper's game in the magoos?
I thought he got touched up by McCartney, at least until 3/4 time... but the Herald-Sun had him in the best yesterday.
Not much height in the Doggies' defence - anyone likely to get a recall to combat Rocca, Petrie, Archer and...
From a North (Port Melbourne) point of view, I didn't think there was much Werribee could do.
There was a huge gap in experience, largely because North and Port have had a good run with injuries, and Werribee are struggling because of the horror run the Doggies have experienced.
Porter...
Occasionally I have access to Level 2 Medallion Club seats. Behind the northern goals (roughly behind the eastern point post), three rows from the front.
Nothing, no NOTHING beats that. It's probably only 40-50 feet from the action, and the elevated view covers the whole playing surface...
Don't undervalue a Level 4 seat, especially among the front rows. Personally, I reckon it's great being able to see the whole ground clearly, and if you are a keen follower of tactics and player moves it's probably the best spot for that kind of supporter.
I've always believed that once you sign a contract, it's set in stone whether you like it or not, and whether other people's conditions improve ot not. I signed a contract at work for shyt money and only 20% overtime pay, but no use whining about it because I didn't have to sign if I didn't want...
And I've just jumped into one. :)
Happy half-ton big fella. In true Aussie tradition, all batsmen politely raise their bat... so now you have to run around at work wielding a cricket bat.
Bulldogs1, it was at one of the BF Footy matches, and the after-match thingy at Bridie's. If my memory serves me correct (stop laughing BT), it would have been the day of the Kingsley Hunter photo shoot!
Someone on the North board suggested Jason McCartney should be targetted by the Doggies for next season, as he's still only 27/28 and has four or five years left in him.
Problem for us is that while his best footy is played at CHB, Pagan uses him to plug a gap at FF when others are playing...
