Oh dear, this reminds me of the chat pre the WCE game by the Freo fans......WCE forward line looked rubbish on paper, yet Waterman(of all players) kicked 6 to lead WCE to victory....hopefully WBD much vaunted forward line can find similar success then.
Considering B&J Williams rucked v Darcy & Jackson and WCE still won....WBD just got to make sure they dominate the clearances and midfield battle....English & Darcy should suffice if JUH comes back in.
I totally agree, I reckon some here totally over inflate the ability and value of some players. Yes they have their moments, but not the consistency needed to win a premiership or even be considered as a premiership contender.
Can't see why Naughton goes back during a game, when he is having one of those days up forward, where he just isn't hitting the scoreboard. Worth persisting with Darcy up front, especially after last week's performance. Build on that confidence he can use his height to clunk a few contested...
Sometimes it's not the destination, but the journey getting there. The journey was pretty terrible at times today TBH, especially against a better side.
Coming late into this, but if Watson is gone by pick 5, I know Sanders is probably next off the rank....but if Curtin is available, does he get a look in? Curtin played some midfield for Claremont seniors in the WAFL with success.
I know Curtin is more known as a KPD, is Croft a dead cert...
More troughs than peaks unfortunately. Peaked in that 9 goal opening term v Richmond and troughed well n truly v WCE.
Where to from here under the current SMT is the million dollar question.
No doubt the powers above will stand around Bev and say it's only early days into a long season. The mantra will be no need to engage the ejector seat just yet.. he is a premiership coach don't forget!
Sadly if the players look switched off after 2 games, what are they going to look like in...
On paper the Dunkley and Hunter losses look bad- both entering prime age for footy, ex premiership & FnB players, but paper footy doesn't win games. Both Jones and Lobb provide a mature big body on the park...one back and one forward. Hopefully allowing the continued development of Darcy...
Well atleast you have till 3pm to enjoy your day before all the trades become official and your day heads south....very considerate of the AFL I reckon
Best test to come for Schlensog is this weekend when his side SF, plays the Freo aligned WAFL team Peelmantle in the elimination final....if the fella struggles against Freo's lesser talls, then not much hope for him v the stronger, faster and bulkier AFL talls.
With Toby out for the Orange's, looks like the "will we won't we" misery might be continued for another week......be ironic if Bev's whipping boy gets selected and kicks a bag to secure his lordship a finals spot for this year.
No harm in giving Darcy a crack TBH....may be young and skinny, but geez surely he would offer more and collect less stick then the likes of Gardner and O'Brien
