This is true, but my questioning is really around... pick 41? C'mon Geelong - it's *highly* unlikely that someone in Div 2 Ammos was going to be taken by anyone else in the National Draft at all. Would have preferred to be a bit more strategic in that sense - take the 98% chance that he would...
Yeah, but none of whom are really the type you would build a forward line around. Darling, Waite and Membrey are all effectively mid-sized and can't provide the same get-out option as, say, Hawkins, while Jenkins was pretty solid value but struggles as a prime target.
They aren't *only* found...
Not quite a "hail Mary", but certainly a long shot. Generally, almost all genuinely good tall forwards are taken in the first round, and certainly not in the 40s. Tom McDonald and Ben Brown are the exception; Franklin, Hawkins (who would have gone top-5 were it not for f/s), Riewoldt, Hogan and...
You and everyone else too, I suspect. Wells has effectively said as much in his post-draft interviews about the kid - that he is raw as a fruit salad and coming from a long way back. However, his rate of improvement has seen him get the nod.
It's a Category B rookie slot that we give up - so...
Because we don't have enough defensively-minded ball winners who run both ways. There's a spot there for him, and it's currently marked "S Selwood" IMO.
Stanley and Abbott - especially given that Stanley is so injury-prone - isn't enough. I don't think Smith will be around for long, though I don't know who he's shagged in order to be so far on the outer.
Because almost all of our talls are hail-Mary types.
Buzza is a very raw Queensland rugby convert coming from a long way back.
Kreuger is an early-40s pick who hasn't played a game and missed out in his draft year.
Ratugolea has the ability, but also has a broken ankle.
The rest of them are...
Yeah, but the only issue being I guess not having easy room to play him... unless of course some big full-forward were to be suspended for a jumper punch?
Yeah, but I do consider four or five good performances in the first 50-odd games for a big forward to be more indicative of quality than a one-off purple patch.
I'm not saying he's Tom Lynch, but he's not a total kipfler either.
Walker would be handy up forward. Brisbane haven't played him there because they want to pump every possible minute into Schache and Hipwood... and plus, who'd be a tall bloody forward for Brisbane with that supply?
To bump back up, looks as though our Club Cult Figure is having a quietly good year across the VFL.

Unlikely. I think we won't find out for a few years yet*, as the decision was made in order to not hinder the development of younger players.
*Unless SJ kicks 50 in a season and we lose the Grand Final by five points.
Surely one of two alternatives;
1) The belief that we have a genuine shot next year (which I don't really hold, to be honest), or
2) The belief that in order to cultivate a culture of success, clubs must never 'bottom out'.
I agree about the ruck and the defence, but the middle and the forward line is still an unsolved issue in my book. Extracting the ball cleanly from the middle was an issue across all of 2012, whilst having an even spread of forward line options was a problem once Pods began to fall away. We...
I disagree with this. Mitch could get twenty touches a week as a tall playing in the twos. As long as Rivers and Pods play at least OK in the ones, there won't be a spot for him.
