Re: Any Tips On Playing First Footy Match
It always good to play in defence particularly half back or tag when you are new to the game. Just try hard, run hard and don't over complicate things.
You should always be thinking and trying to predict where the ball and your player will go next...
Re: Help required
Yep, strenght and flexability will help. Stretching the muscles around the hips will be benificial. Even practicing kicking long will help.
some ppl have weak wrists or injured wrists and much in the same way a player straps their ancle to prevent an ancle sprain they do the same to prevent a wrist sprain, sprained wrists hurt and can linger for a long time.
yeah being strong helps. Go to your sports store and by a pair of those hand strengthening things you squeez. Use it as intended/advised, also there is another exercise you can do to strengthen your thumbs as you can't clunk marks without your thumbs behind the ball. Hold one of the devices...
Re: Getting distance on my kick
Want get longer at kicking, it's like everyhting else, specific practice. Get a ball, go to an oval and find your range and have shots on goal from right on your range. Keep doing it, see if your range eventually increases. Play a little with your kicking...
a few years back it used to be a hotdog at the footy, it seemed to work really well although it does not sound very professional.
I would suggest though, if you were going to take a professional approach, have a large tea the night before that is high in complex carbohydrates such as grain...
Plenty of good stuff listed, love my music, a real music nut but a lot of the stuff others do doesn't work for me.
Often every one is bouncing around the rooms, yelling and screaming. I find I play my best footy if I am quiet and and keeping to myself. I find all that hoo har lets it all...
if you are gonna play off him and he is deep then make sure you don't get too close. If you are 3 or 4 meters in front of him, that's too close, he will watch you and as soon as you take a glance off him he'll take off and you'll lose him. Play 6 - 8 meters in front if he's deep. If it goes...
If you are holding jumper and doing the sorts of things described then that sounds like you are playing from behind which for me is a big no, especially at full back and if you lack leg speed.
my tips for defending are:
1. Never take eyes off the ball/ball carrier, you can tell where an...
Re: Getting distance on my kick
Goal kicking is all about finding your style and practice, is it the same as your field kick? Your run up length and speed and where to aim. Do you use the Fevola style or the Jon Brown style? I use the Fev style, the important aspect to that is the position...
1 round? It's been "gone" for ages! Just because the media were slow to pick up on it. It's a damn good rule, removes the fine line between a push and a hold. Makes players want front position, makes them use their bodies, makes players want to fly for marks rather than push and shove...
I keep seeing it, and it's someting certian teams seem to plan to do and that is when a player gathers the footy at ground level, instead of turning the other way and protecting the ball from the nearest opposition player, they turn into them and initiate the high contact.
Some players are...
well i thought prior oppertunity didn't count, when you are tackled there are only 2 ways to get rid of it, unless the tackler knocks it out.
Most of the time a player is tackled and the ball spills out after, this IMO is dropping. If the ball is knocked out the instant the player is tackled...
i'm with you on that one, i just thing the inturpretation needs to be changed so umpires don't have to guess. If a player is tackled, and the body (not the arms) doesn't fall into the back of the tackled player then that should be ok. Fair enough if a player tackles and rides the bloke into...
There isn’t many more annoying things than when a player is tackled and able to land on their chest/belly and get a free kick for it. I think the interpretation needs looking at to stop players from getting free kicks for diving forward. I don’t see a problem with a lot of the tackles...
The hands in the back rule is gone. Or at least it appears so. Players are putting the hands in the back constantly again, some even giving a push and getting away with it.
It was a rule I liked and the players have just started to adapt and now they have appeared to have scrapped it. That...
Why is it that when a player gets tackled they can just drop the ball? Sometimes the tackler is penalised for holding! This happes all the time, players just let the ball dribble out. Last time I checked if you were being tackled you had to eith kick or handball...
This is not a Carlton related thread. Don't get off topic.
Divers are not ashamed, they don't care, they do feel very happy when awarded with a free kick.
It should be an offence fined at the tribunal and obvious onfield diving and free kick fishing should be a free kick also. Start...
When players go looking to stir up trouble then when they get an opponent to "bite" they take a dive and get a free. When is this going to be dealt with?
The best example was 2009 round 3, Carlton V Essendon. Bret Thornton gave away a free kick to Matthew Lloyd, which I didn't think was...
It's all about Power (strength + Speed), flexability and skill.
1. You must practice kicking long, get out as often as possible and have shots at goal from right on your limit. This will develop your coordination, flexability and strengthen the muscles in your groin.
2. I have heard...
