And fair can be "both teams walk away respectfully" which is the point.
This is a closed industry, and if someone's playing rough and p**sing people off unnecessarily then it will come back to bite them.
If you can rip someone off and they shake your hand to say thanks afterwards however..
I guess there's a difference between "being fair and having a great relationship with" (ie you can agree to disagree and walk away without rancour) and "being forced into a trade by threatening to walk a player through the PSD 2 years running" (otherwise known as "using a Crow-bar")?
Ladhams 22nd in the league for hitouts in 2021 with 230. Plenty of time to develop being provided.
Only 2nd rucks that got more were Luke Jackson (255) behind Gawn, Ceglar (251) behind McEvoy and is also moving, Blicavs/Stanley (50/50 share without a clear 1st ruck, and both have a second...
They DO want to play Ladhams, you know that right? Played 17 games this year as a ruck forward, 4-5 were as stand-alone ruck.
Everyone keeps talking $$$, $400K for a first 22 player is hardly overs.
All things being equal, Port would be quite happy with a Ladhams/Hayes ruck tandem...
No worried Gladys. Or is that Domenic?
Might be a downgrade on 1st rounders, or later picks as makeweights.
Or it might be that Port will settle for whatever Hawthorn accepts as part of a deal for an O'Meara or Mitchell.
Or nothing happens at all?
It's not the salary cap space, we had room for a big ZMerrett bid but Essendon stupidly made finals this year.
It's more like the 1st round draft picks that we'll need to accumulate. Two as a minimum if Lukosius has a big season next year. Maybe three and a player if we think Rankine wants to...
Not only is a trade between clubs for a player (Dawson vs a 1st Rd draft pick) but also a trade between clubs' BF supporters (Dawson is a star vs Dawson is a hack).
Almost every single time.
People just don't understand that logic.
I keep seeing comments on subjective rank based on quality, whereas draft picks are based on order selected.
It's why every year, player X selected at 80-something was a "steal" as they had him listed in the top 30.
Every team has the ability to pick...
That's what bidding is?
You can bid for those players and if you do they are worth that pick.
Just because only one team has a veto power, doesn't mean anything. If anything, it reinforces it. Any other year, number 1 pick could be wasted on the 30th best player and no one could ever show...
We also have very good older players retire. And/or have a declining salary.
And/or move on from the club.
We almost certainly will need to balance the books in 2-3 years. But not yet.
All good.
There's a forward - ruck spot for Ladhams, 2022. That's where his value to Port Adelaide is, 2022.
Over next 12-24 months, Port Adelaide would be moving to a Ladhams - Hayes tandem rather than a Lycett - Hayes tandem. Ladhams doesn't want to hang around as a fwd until then, he wants...
Lot happens in 12 months. No-one is waiting for next year.
Sydney have told Ladhams they want him, Port Adelaide are prepared to let him go, Port Adelaide and Sydney clearly aren't that far apart for a trade but holding firm on the middle ground.
Now Ladhams is forcing the issue by putting...
Assuming he still wants to go (Lycett gets another year on)
Injuries / suspensions through the year could mean he gets the opportunity to elevate his game and make him a keeper
Will he still want to go to Sydney in 12 months time? other teams' needs will be different and a good season means more...
Sliding doors, Barratt style....
IF
... whatever picks we end up with plus full 2022 salary for Ladhams, ends up as part of a deal for one of Mitchell / O'Meara / Wingard,
THEN
... I'd be ok with that.
AND IF
... by some alternate reality, we instead ended up with a suitable deal for Dawson...
To be honest, this just looks like a "rinse and repeat" of the Orazio Fantasia trade last year. Adelaide were interested but once Fantasia declared Port Adelaide as his preferred destination it was never going the other way.
Dawson to Adelaide via PSD is the raging hot favourite now.
Dockers might be interested with Lobb seemingly moving back to GWS now.
Pick 19 they got from the Suns as part of the Will Brodie trade might be in play for Ladhams depending on how they deal for Geelong 's Clark.
Ladhams won't play first ruck with Darcy there so won't happen I guess.
