Reckon we probably could have squeezed them for a bit more but happy to get the deal done.
The picks are all in the range where there will still be some good players left. Will be one of those trades where you'll need to wait 2 or 3 years to see how the dogs do out of it.
More sponsorship deals and other ways to earn coin living in Melbourne.
Also Brisbane front loaded his contract so it wouldn't have been that hard to match his current wage.
Probably a unique circumstance as we had kids leaving for home left right and centre, so had very little leverage and were never going to get proper value.
No what we have is 1 club trying to recruit Howe, Treloar and Aish when they clearly don't have the currency for all 3.
Lions will trade if it looks like you have something worthwhile I suspect.
Leigh Matthews has pissed off a lot of Collingwood supporters with his words. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
Collingwood have stretched themselves a bit thin in their hunt to sign both Treloar and Aish. It's great to have that ambition but the pies clearly don't have enough to get both deals done...
No doubt the club needs to lift it's game in the player retention area. It also has a big challenge competing with football mad states that are more enticing to many players.
I don't agree that it won't change anything.
Right now the players and player managers know there's an easy out from...
It may not prevent people from leaving but it stops the current scenario where we have players leaving and nominating just 1 club - Severely impacting our ability to secure a fair deal.
We've been holding him back.
We really didn't want to lose him at the end of this year so we limited his game time to avoid the prying eyes of other clubs.
Pretty hard to rate a "top of the comp". Once you go past the best 5 - 10 plays it gets pretty subjective due to the different roles. Hard to compare a defender with a mid with a forward.
I think the point was that we have numerous Collingwood fans crying foul play. Yet they seem to think it's perfectly fine for Eddie to try and squeeze players into his team by offering them a salary outside of the cap via channel 9.
Of course they don't want to go near it. Absolutely no excuse for it.
They are the first club to throw the toys out of the cot and claim they are the victim of some dodgey deals. Meanwhile it's perfectly fine for Eddie to go around and offer contracted players a gig at channel 9 if they join...
If you think this is unprofessional, what's your thoughts on the article Jono Brown wrote earlier in the year. It mentioned Eddie approaching him and offering him a channel 9 gig if he joined the pies. A salary outside of the cap of course.
I'm sure we would be pretty keen on Beams but I'm not sure about "Desperate". When you say desperate you are implying we would do almost anything to get him.
