Traded Esava Ratugolea [Traded to Port Adelaide for #25, #76 and #94]

8 marks in a half, 3 off opposition kicks, zero turnovers. Also, because they aren't a disposal, I don't think his two errors are technically clangers.

Our AFL side had more holes in it than Jarlsburg in the first half of the year. When all the troops were back, he got dropped. The team's defence does seem to work better with de Koning and a few "hybrid" medium-tall defenders.

Club Focus Geelong 2023 - Reportedly open to trading their first round pick

Games played isn't necessarily a measure of quality, though.

Club Focus Geelong 2023 - Reportedly open to trading their first round pick

Oh, look, if you actually know a change is coming, then you can make contingency plans for it (like North did with the 10 year rule in 1973) - but just don't plan solely around it happening.

Club Focus Geelong 2023 - Reportedly open to trading their first round pick

It could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it happening any time soon. Play to the rules you have, not the ones you want.

Club Focus Geelong 2023 - Reportedly open to trading their first round pick

I assume by that you're inferring that free agency will be extended to all out of contract players?

Club Focus Geelong 2023 - Reportedly open to trading their first round pick

My old local footy coach played for Carlton in '94. Played one game. Came on, missed a tackle, got dragged - no kicks, no handballs, no stats, no more games, nothing. Poor bastard

Traded Esava Ratugolea [Traded to Port Adelaide for #25, #76 and #94]

Yeah, but: We will probably get the same return for him anyway, and It was worth it for a year while we were still genuinely a shot at the title.

That's not elite, though, merely good. To be elite, you need to offer a threat with ball in hand, regardless of where you play.

Traded Esava Ratugolea [Traded to Port Adelaide for #25, #76 and #94]

Exactly. If I were Esava, I'd go for the club who has been showing direct interest in me for the last 18 months, and is in flag contention.

Traded Esava Ratugolea [Traded to Port Adelaide for #25, #76 and #94]

It absolutely was a fair trade, but our problem was that if we had accepted it, then we would have had only one genuinely tall defender left.

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

The caveat I would put on that is that Gawn is a ruckman, and with the exception of the Madden boys, they don't tend to go as long as other players.

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

It does, but it can be pretty destructive to carry an Unhappy Camper in the side, especially one on a pretty decent amount of coin.

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

Admittedly I didn’t see last weekend, but for the month before he wasn’t exactly tearing it up. He’s still a good footballer. But he is pretty clearly not the elite ruckman he once was.
  15. iameviljez

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

He is still in the VFL, and did not exactly smash it out of the park in either league. He probably still starts at 12 clubs in the league - including mine - but he is not 2018 Grundy.

Recommitted Tarryn Thomas [OOC 2024] - Staying at North

Hopper also isn’t a potential train wreck. He will definitely play out eight or so very good seasons with Richmond, no questions asked. Thomas is a massive risk. Yes, he is hugely talented, but he is 23 and hasn’t yet become the star that was touted. More to the point, he could absolutely blow...

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

Jarrod Witts is stuck at an irrelevant club, but he is probably better than most of those for mine.

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

It’s not disrespect to judge the guy on the last four years of output.
  19. iameviljez

Traded Brodie Grundy [traded to Sydney for #46 and F2]

On the con side, Grundy has now gone through two clubs and fallen out of favour, and that’s not a good look. It’s also very different to Lobb who was very much a required player at both clubs… plus he can play forward.

Recommitted Jake Riccardi [Re-signed to 2026]

Didn't know we were relegating North to the VFL as early as that ;)

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

... in that daddy isn't the reason he got a plum AFL media job?

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

I agree with all of the critique about him. That said, I would take Edmund's proclamations from three weeks ago with a grain of salt. You know what you're getting with Parish. He's not hugely defensively disciplined, he's not particularly quick or a big kick, he doesn't kick a lot of goals. But...

Recommitted Jake Riccardi [Re-signed to 2026]

Everyone's potentially a legend when they're only young.

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

Pobody's nerfect eh ;) Look, the guy averages 30 touches/game. Yes, some of them might be seagull on a chip touches, but we really don't have any midfielders who can be so involved across the full game any more, not since Dangerfield got old.
  25. iameviljez

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

No idea what the source is, but God knows we have a space in our midfield for a hard-running accumulator type.
  26. iameviljez

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

I suspect this is the case, and just the fact that we are a lot more used to this than we once were.
  27. iameviljez

    Recommitted Darcy Parish - re-signed until 2028!

Given that rumours have linked Parish to Geelong for at least the last two years, I suspect that there's isn't really a figure that would get him to stay. (Beyond, of course, Tom Boyd level cash.)
  28. iameviljez

Recommitted Jake Riccardi [Re-signed to 2026]

It would be one hell of a sale job - would Riccardi see himself in the next flag side at North?
