You're much more convinced by an official statement which only exists in your head. Essendon have won 14 VFL Premierships, 2 AFL Premierships and therefore 16 VFL/AFL Premierships. No league official would dispute that. It's foolproof... never mind.

They're not, in the table above they're clearly counted as "AFL/VFL" Premierships. The distinction is made for a reason.

Strange how that's not reflected on their own website. https://www.afl.com.au/stats/awards/records Think they'd get rid of the "/VFL" part if your memory was accurate.

This is inherently acknowledged by the league's name change and consequential "VFL/AFL Premierships" categorisation.
