    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

Protect the new ahead of the old? That's a pretty ridiculous argument to make.

    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

Yes, the 38,000 people who watch games in Brisbane every weekend are hugely important. There is no way the cost of the expansion clubs is made up for by the additional revenues. You really think Ch 7 and Foxtel pay that much more money for the 9th game each weekend? Spending hundreds of...

    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

The AFL has poured huge amounts of money in to NSW and QLD. It wouldnt surprise me at all that they waste. It can be incompetence not conspiracy.

Was anyone playing or training on them? I see them all the time too. But I dont see them used.

People having been talking their doom since before GCS existed yet they are still growing and no debt. If GCS relocated to Tasmania how many people would actually care ?
  6. HairyO

    AFL overtaking NRL in QLD

It wont ever happen. GCS not existing in 15 years is massively more likely.

GWS is the AFL's biggest problem - not North, GC, or Tassie

Yep counting SCG members as Swans members. I know a heap of them. Dont actually spend any money supporting the Swans.

Tasmania Tasmania Devils, welcome to the AFL. Mens team to enter 2028. Womens team TBA. Other details TBA 3/5 (Part 2)

Public housing and private housing generally are 2 very separate things with little impact on eachother. I doubt too many property investors go for the very low end where there is competition from public housing.

Did Gil just put mergers back on the agenda?

The only Giants fans I know have 2 memberships. Their actual club they have always supported and Giants - so they can see more than just 1 or 2 games each year (when their team comes to Sydney to plan Swans or Giants). That said, I dont know many Swans members either, but plenty of SCG members...

Did Gil just put mergers back on the agenda?

Hundreds of millions poured down the drain with GCS and GWS who will simply never be popular. That isnt promoting the game outside Victoria, its ego thinking that he (AFL) can steal audience from the NRL, when even the NRL struggles with the Gold Coast, and Western Sydney is the NRL's heartland...

Did Gil just put mergers back on the agenda?

Problem is the AFL owns/controls half the teams because they are so financially dependent on the extra handouts, so getting the 2/3 of votes will be very hard.

Did Gil just put mergers back on the agenda?

Exactly. He is a lame duck. Nothing he says matters now. He can now pretend to have been wanting to make a bunch of important decisions which he never would have actually done while he was CEO. Inventing his legacy, given his actual legacy is hundreds of millions of dollars wasted, local footy...

Price of attending AFL games at Optus Stadium significantly higher than MCG as cost of living hits families

While they will pretend to care I dont think they really care at all. Their goal is to make as much money as possible and if rich people are willing to pay more then they make more money.

Play Nice 2022 Non AFL Crowds/Ratings/Finance/Development thread

That is the smart way to grow the crowds. Also may get more people staying for the NRL games.

    The Barrassi Line

You would assume football clubs have more players too, given its 13 vs 18 on field. Without going through the reports was this factored in ?

AFL announces 4.5billion, 7 year media deal (2025-2031 inclusive)

No money for any of that unfortunately.

AFL announces 4.5billion, 7 year media deal (2025-2031 inclusive)

The last media rights deal he bought all the radio rights (though I think ABC gets their own deal) and then he was able to on-sell the rights. Which is ridiculous. The AFL could do it themselves if they wanted. The idea that they cant get half a dozen groups to give them money every year for 5...

Will Hutchinson once again pay $10m for radio rights then on-sell for $20m ?

Crypto Sponsorship for the AFL - and now NFTs

You just dont get the vibe, boomer ! Hopefully all those in here gloating over the last few months sold out at the peak. Its fun to mock ignorance, but not so much fun if they had invested heavily and have taken a beating.

They have spent $400m or something insane on advertising and sponsorships over the last year. Its a Ponzi scheme and only works if they raise billions and then continue to raise billions.

They would have for this year, but it was a multi-year sponsorship. So Gil is okay. Whoever comes next inherits his mess. One day the Commission will step in and tell the Executive to actually focus on the long term health of football, but given they are all too busy organising business deals...

I have a work phone which I most certainly dont look at anything naughty on and I havent seen them in ages so it would be interesting to know what I was doing on a work phone that would have Google think I was keen on getting myself a Russian bride. These days I see all sorts of healthy living...
