Not sure if someone can upload all of this. It's paywalled and the old tricks of googling in incognito no longer work. If anyone has discovered a new workaround please share ;)

So they are knocking down a 45k stadium to build another 45k stadium, right in the same place? What????? Has that ever been done before anywhere in the world?
I have heard of knocking down stadiums or renovating them into bigger ones in the same place to meet demand. (E.g. Arsenal moving from...
Tony Shepherd is chairman of the trust. He is the GWS chairman
Richard Colless is also a trustee. He is a former Swans Chairman.
Enough representation for you?
Whilst the AFL may have not explicitly stated they want to keep ANZ as an oval, GWS president Tony Shepherd most certainly has - and the article implies the AFL is right behind him:
It is understood the powerful AFL, a sporting body that has an impressive track record of securing government...
I don't know what to make of this. Is the AFL being crafty and sneaky in trying to screw RL over? As others have mentioned above, the SCG is more than ample for the Swans, as is spotless for the Giants. There are very few occasions where you would expect an AFL match in Sydney to significantly...
Even as a Canberran, not sure I like this idea...GWS should not be running to Manuka to host finals games. They should have the courage of their convictions to host finals, and get 20k+ sellouts, at Spotless, because Western Sydney is where most of their growth should come from.
GWS Giants...
Yes I noticed that with interest but I couldn't tell if he was taking the piss. Irrespective of that he clearly checked himself saying unless there is a deal reached soon with the government and WAFL there'll be no footy at all.

The AFL will chip in all right - I think thay contribute to most stadia - as long as there is something in it for them and their clubs. And quite rightly in my view given those clubs are the ones putting on the vast majority of events.
I remember that game - against Carlton of course in 2010. Checked the crowd 36,780. Can't remember if the full house sign went up - but if it did - over 5,000 no shows.
Fact remains the record Gabba crowd of 37,224 was before final development in 2005. There may not have been a spare seat that...
Just on the Gabba - it was redeveloped in stages. At the time when the Lions were on par crowd wise with the Broncos in Queensland (during their three peat and also 2004/2005), Its capacity was about 37k, and the Lions did sell it out quite few times. Largest (record) crowd was 37,224 against...
Doubt that will happen. By then, ANZ will be rectangular, and Spotless will be expanded to 35k. So Sydney will have 3 major recangular satdiums (ANZ, Allianz and the new Parammatta Stadium) and 2 major ovals (SCG and Spotless). If GWS is selling out there 35k statdium every week by then - more...
There is a thread over on the GWS board if you want to read about it. Unlike Spotless, Manuka needs a capacity lift to about 20k and a refurb (puttigna roof over all seats would be a start). As for the unsolicited proposal which called for massive redevelopment, I can take it or leave it.
Hey I was sitting in those seats at the Dees vs Saints game! It was also my first game at Etihad since the LED's (and also the new improved scoreboard which went in around the same time or a year earlier perhaps). On Level 3, the LED was no issue at all.
Really like this idea. Should have been done years ago. Can't believe it would cost $1b though - unless it includes a rebuild of Richmond station, in which case it would make more sense economically IMO.
Have to wonder though, given the government investment required, how this would impact the...
I've always thought the AFL/SANFL/SMA were very smart when they got this up (by getting over 75% of the SACA vote). Had they proposed a fully completed 60-70k stadium, it probably would not have got through. People were (and still are) attached to the scoreboard, hill and trees. Definitely a...
It will happen eventually. I think I mentioned in another thread somewhere that when Port and the Crows are consistently selling it out every week (i.e 50k plus) and are turning people away - which will probably mean they have to put a waiting list on memberships (a la WCE and Freo at Subi) -...
This.
Can someone explain to me why they are not building a multi purpose cricket AFL stadium? Every other capital city has the AFL/cricket equivalent (i.e. Adelaide Oval, MCG, SCG, GABBA). I am not a perth resident, but it seems (looking at a map), that the WACA has a great location adjacent...
As a Canberra resident and footy supporter, I have a vested interest in Manuka and I did some searching online as discovered these master plans that have been mentioned in above posts:
http://www.manukaoval.com.au/about/master_plan.php
There are 3 options, increasing in cost, size and scale...
Christoh I have stood on hills in crappy venues here in melbourne watching Local football. I have also attended Etihad, MCG and even Stadium Australia in Sydney. I know what I prefer. Thank goodness the Adelaide Oval proposal got up - it gives me some confidence that the good people of Adelaide...
OK so it rains less in Adelaide than other capital cities - fine. I still don't see why we need a hill in the 21st century of professional sports. UEFA stadia are listed into 4 categories, with only the lowest having standing room available. I doubt (or I stand to be corrected) that any NFL...
I can't believe, in this day and age, the AFL will settle for a stadium that is not an all seater. Just wait when there are 50k people packed into the joint how disgusting that area will look. I really do believe they kept the hill and old scoreboard in to the design just to get the numbers in...
If the Crows and Power crowds take off and footy in SA starts going gangbusters like in WA, I'd expect that grassy hill will be gone within a decade and new seating brought in to make it an all seater, taking capacity somewhere around the 60k mark, which is perfect for a city the size of...
