Rob Rose would have played a helluva lot more for the Sixers if not for the arrogance of Mike Dunlap.
Remember the player revolt during the '95 finals series?
Rose pretty much dragged us back to respectability after the woeful Shipway/Monson years.
Since 1982...

G - Magic Johnson

Shaquille O'Neal

AL GREEN has to be in there ahead of Phil Smyth, who only played two seasons with us at the end of his career.
Also, BILL JONES, captain of our 1986 championship team, instead of Paul Rees.
Magic was very bitter about that - he felt betrayed by what Malone did and fair enough. It was pretty low.
If I remember correctly, Karl ('the whitest black man in America' according to Dennis) was the most vocal opponent to Magic's return and led the campaign against it.
Channel 10 stuffed royally in its coverage of both the NBL and NBA.
They bought the NBL with much fanfare and showed it in prime-time. What the dumb ar$es failed to realise is the parochial support the game generates over here.
People in Adelaide want to watch the 36ers, people in Perth...
Better get in before the Karl-bashers take over this thred...
Despite what anyone says, and despite all his faults (though I still can't quite get over the hypocrisy of the '92 Olympics and the attack on Phil Smyth's character) ranks as one of the all-time greats.
Doesn't belong in the...
The 1992 Draft wasn't too shabby either...
Shaq

LaPhonso

Walt Williams

Doug Christie
Malik Sealy
Way too many busts to pick from.
But for mine, guys like Derrick Coleman, Billy Owens, Kenny Anderson and Benoit Benjamin are the biggest disappointments simply for the fact they pi$$ed their talent without seemingly giving two s***s about.
Any PG that averages 20-10, even Michael Adams, is a freak. The one knock against KJ is the amount of basketball he missed through injury. We probably only ever saw him at his best for three or four seasons.
Dunno about that. I reckon Karl was pretty happy to be on the receiving end of all...
Count me as a fan too.
Always loved the fact he was never scared of the taking the big shot.
The winner against the C's in the last game at Boston Garden was the sweetest.
What do you know, a difference of opinion on these boards leads to a slanging match.
Stockton was at the peak of his powers between 1987-1992, although his 93-95 years weren't too shabby either.
Except for the Price selection, I don't see how anyone could justify his selection in the...
Hold firm in that belief, though they clearly weren't.
What's with this fixation you have for 'PG of the year?'
Year-by-year...
Magic was a lock on the PG spot until 1990-91.
Couldn't ignore Drexler in 1991-92.
Price in 1992-93 - that one raises eyebrows.
A. Hardaway 1995-96 - road...
Sorry, that should read SHAQ #1.
2004, I think. But I'll have to check on that,
Are you saying Stockton's career was over by the early 90s? If so, a bit odd considering he was All-NBA first team in 1993-94, 1994-95.
Except Kidd, the others are still writing their history and still...
Wandering aimlessly through a bookstore today and I stumbled across a tome by some stats guru who compiled the 50 greatest NBA players according to his statistical analysis.
I don't hold much stock in these things, but with this debate in mind, I checked out where the point guards ranked in...
TEEN WOLF
'Shoot it fat boy!'
That line still cracks me up.
Anyone seen:
The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh
Above the Rim
Heaven is a Playground
Blue Chips
If you haven't, you're not missing much.
'Forget Paris,' which was pretty easy to do was the biggest rip-off of all-time...
Payton has only been an All-NBA First Team selection twice as well.
In Stockton's defence, when he was putting up his best numbers - those ridiculous years when he was scoring 17ppg and dishing out 14apg - Magic was winning MVPs.
I'm assuming 'best PG since Magic' refers to the best point guard since Magic retired in 1990-91 (excluding that brief comeback.)
That being the case, Stockton and Kidd are clearly head and shoulders above the rest.
Just waiting for some goon to throw in the 'if Anfernee didn't get...
Joe 'The Destoyer' Hammond.
Playground legend who knocked back a $50,000 contract with the Lakers because he was making too much money on the street.
Of course, it all went sour. He got hooked on drugs, ended up in jail and today makes a living selling bootleg tapes.
By all accounts...
Thanks for coming.
At the start of the season, I wasn't too optimistic about our chances. Shades of 2002 perhaps?
Another championship for Mahersy would give him four rings.
How many have you got, Shane?
Wasn't Reggie's death drug-related too? I seem to remember cocaine being found in his system which only exacerbated his heart condition.
Other drug victims include Micheal Ray Richardson, Roy Tarpley and more recently (to drink), Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker.
