If you're a Hollywood "female" personality, jokes about you losing your hair are probably akin to telling jokes about a athlete losing their leg. If its someone like Bruce Willis , probably not a big deal. "Male Pattern baldness" isn't a career killer.

There is a youtube about Gervais mocking Steve Carrell. It includes some interview footage of Carrell , where he says that Gervais gives him a heads up before the show. Probably a good idea for that sort of humour.
