Just noticed this thread now. Amazing that Harris gets an invite and is therefore rated a chance to win it, but hasn't played enough games to qualify for the finals!
Will a full list of votes be published anywhere, or do we have to make do with the top 3 as per the Herald-Sun?
No doubting Bourke's courage, not for one second. Suicidally brave. It's just that he can't actually play football.
I couldn't believe the BOOs he was getting every time he touched the ball at the <left of screen> end. He might be a complete gimp, but I can't see what he's ever done to anyone...
Port Melbourne would be a show to beat Box Hill this week. Some experience in the Port side, with Robbins and S.Clayton returning, and players like Rocca, Bourke, Filandia, Motlop, Obst and Teague already running around.
The ruck-forward combo of Rocca-Hale-McIntosh-De Luca will prove a...
According to my source, FOOTY FACTS 1987, they are all ACTAFL. I know nothing about the League, so I can't elaborate any further than what I quoted verbatim.
BTW, I am still looking for that other book I've got somewhere, which has records from a broader range and level of competitions. It's...
Not a huge tally, but Brett Grimley kicked 107 for Wilston-Grange in the QAFL in 1987.
Also listen in the book I have, are the leading goalkickers of the other 9 QAFL clubs that year, ranging from 72 goals down to 18.
A book I've got acknowldeges big centuries for all of those players in the years mentioned, but actual tallies vary from those quoted above.
156, 157, 152, 132, 144, 141, 127, 133, 123, 123 for the ten mentions respectively.
E.Tyson also kicked 126 for West Perth in 1938.
Werribee v Bendigo Bombers
North Ballarat v Tasmania
Frankston v Springvale
Northern Bullants v Box Hill Hawks
Coburg Tigers v Geelong
Port Melbourne v Sandringham
Bye - Williamstown
Bendigo
Tasmania
Frankston
Box Hill
Geelong
Port
Box Hill I reckon.
It might not just have to do with how far into the finals senior sides get... VFL sides who have their affiliates playing in the early AFL finals might suffer a lack of depth early and get knocked out, then "regain" the fringe AFL blokes when it's too late.
Box Hill are...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: VFL; better or worse with AFL reserves??
Sydney pulled the pin on the Port alignment.
I wouldn't say the Murray Kangaroos failed... and you're understating the crowd figures by a LONG way... I believe North Melbourne looked to Port for an alignment...
I was flicking through some old Footy Records last night and found one from the 1993 elimination final. The previous week's result contained a huge score and margin.
Western Jets (1st) 45.30.300
Ballarat Rebels (9th of 10 clubs) 3.4.22
Surely the score and margin would be records for that...
Personally I'd love to see the GF at the Whitten Oval. It has one public stand with seating, and one without, and mostly concreted hills in the outer. Comfortably held 20,000 until the mid 90s (17 crowds of over 20,000 in the 90s), including 29,698 for Footscray vs Richmond in 1990, and 26,704...
Fair to say Port vs Willi will be the match of the round?
Port have lost the last two narrowly, but I quite fancy our chances against Williamstown. Some experienced North players in the Port side again this week, and I'm sure Laidley will have passed on some inside info about the Collingwood...
Ron Todd kicked 20 for Williamstown vs Oakleigh in 1945.
His record for the year was :
9, 8, 13, 7, 20, 10, 6, 11, 11, 11, 7, 7, 5, 6, 5, 13, 10, 6, 9, 6, 3, 6
Some info I've been able to dig up :
WAFL club records as at 1987 :
Claremont - 19, George Moloney, 1940
East Fremantle - 19, George Doig, 1934
East Perth - 13, Bill Mose vs Claremont 1958
Perth - 16, Bert Gook, 1937
South Fremantle - 23, Bernie Naylor vs Subiaco, 1953 (incl. 12 in one...
I don't mind the merger of the two competitions, but disagree with the name VFL being used (even though it was before the merger).
The VFL and VFA used to be two different things, now they're one and the same but it's not actually those two competitions that merged.
If a change was needed...
Back in my late teens, I was unemployed for a stretch and actually trotted out with this mob a couple of times.
The idea was just starting out at the time (1992/93?) and from memory the side I played for was actually called the Western Bullies, three or four years before the Footscray...
Both had stints at AFL clubs, and I'm particularly surprised Eames didn't kick on. He played with North's under 19s in the mid/late 80s, and while I didn't remember him from those days, he looked very reliable and impressive playing for the Bees. Satterly spent a year or two at Footscray...
There was a Robbie Walker that played in the North reserves in the late 80s, probably the same bloke because Wangaratta was in our old zone. I remember him, if it's the same bloke - tallish blond guy with a mullet from memory.
I admit to never seeing the bloke play, but I've known BT (from...
Wayde, the official North Melbourne history, The North Story contains several paragraphs about both Laurie and Leo Dwyer. It concentrates basically on their careers with North Melbourne, and doesn't really offer too much outisde that.
I'd be happy to reproduce it for you if you PM me your...
Just another question...
What's the timeline for a season, regarding pre-season commencement, first round of competition, etc. and on what day of the weekend are most matches held?
Nah, not looking at this season at all. Quite a while off making a planned move, and let's just say that while fitness might not be a stringent requirement for country seconds, I'd be huffing and puffing after driving to the ground.
