I don't think many move unless they ask.
They will get good picks this year, hope for a better 2025 and be in a position to get free agents in for 2026. I wonder though if Geelong would consider trading its first ( perhaps 13) for Hopper? Only if they miss out on Bailey Smith, and even then if...
The real danger is if a player is out of contract at years end, and a free agent. Clubs down the bottom will realise there is no chance of the player staying , so will çhoose to trade mid year.
I don't know how this will work, will players association accept only players not playing much or on...
I am assuming pick 1 is 4000, picks 10 and later stay same for points. Just an example I gave, iy does seem the price yo move up one spot is a 2nd rounder, so I agree it may not be possible to make so many trades.
I think limiting the number of picks to match does a better job than other ways to...
You have to limit the picks to match, otherwise a team with say picks 6 ,24,42 can trade
6 for 7,25.
7 for 8,26.
8 for 10,28
10 for 12,30
End up with say 12,25,26,28 30, 24,42.
Then trade 12 for a F1, 24 for a F2.
Match a bid at 1 with 25,26 28,30 42.
So turn 6 24 42 into 1,F1,F2.
If only 3...
Take a player at 14, hopefully a player you don't really want leaves and you trade
player,F3 for pick 24. Match with 24,32 .
If you have 14,24,32 and a bid comes at 12, trade 14 for a F1 if allowed.
If the points curve is adjusted ( say keep as is, but change top 10 as follows
1 is 4000
2 is 3500
3 is 3100
4 is 2700
5 is 2400
6 is 2100
7 is 1900
8 is 1700
9 is 1550
10 is 1400 ( keep the rest the same).
Then if you limit to 3 picks, also reduce discount to 10%, then to match a bid at pick 2...
What if it is Hawthorn and one of Luke Hodges boys?
I am actually torn on this case. 2 picks seems too little, 3 maybe a bit too much.
Anyway, knowing AFL they will probably make it 3 picks, which is in most cases too much I think.
Exactly. I think 3 picks might be needed for top 5 bids or so, how does a team finishing 3rd match a bid at 4 with picks 15,33. It is not possible to do so. Even if that team packaged 15 , F1 they might only get pick 11 or so in a trade, possibly no takers at all.
Change next year I think could/ Should happen . Have a 10% discount, 2 picks to match. If you can't match with 2, 5% discount, and only first round picks to be used ( and must include a pick within 3 of ladder position pick)
So if Brisbane finish 6th and have 13, they can use 13,31 for Ashcroft...
What should change then so WA clubs aren't disadvantaged then?
Isn't distance the main problem, it would be very hard to change that ( unless WA clubs get 12 home games in a 22 round season, that means the other 16 need to have one less home game severy 8 seasons). I doubt they agree to that though.
I think NGA academy's should be phased out, to be AFL run.
Keep the Northern ones , changing discount to 10%, 2 picks only, also adjusting the points curve will fix it.
I don't think point 3 is needed. I think for point 1 within 10 is ok, but I would allow a natural first rounder to he used as well.
So if you win flag and have pick 18, you can match a bid at 2 or 3 using 18 and other picks, not trade it down to 25 26 and get more points from it.
It will be very...
I think the 20% discount is reduced, probably to 5 or 10%. If it was 5%, I think the rule should be that for a 2nd father son, the 5% discount is replaced with 10% loading.
I hope if they change to say a 5% discount, 2 picks to match they don't just leave it to 2025.
Make 2024 3 picks being allowed, although the Tigers wouldn't like that. It stops 2024 being a complete joke as well.
On Gettable , Cal was asked what changes he would make to nga. Cal said the discount could go, NGA could go back to pick 20.
I don't hold much hope the changes or type of changes everybody in this forum wants ( like restricting to 2 picks to màtch).
I wonder why? Are some influential clubs...
Can fix quite easily. As others and myself have said, if you limit matching to 2 picks alot fairer.
E.g gold coast this year wouldn't be able to trade down and end up with 2 future first rounders as they would need to use decent picks to match.
They should have had to trade 4,40 for 6,15 with...
According to ESPN, GWS get an E+ for the trade period ( as gave away 12 for nothing as neither north or WCE would take Cadman, also no players back for Taranto, Hopper).
