I think in the case of Lochie O'Brien, we still wanted to give him another year to show something more, so didn't want to lose him as such, but we needed the senior list spots and he was the most expendable on form. I have no issue with players who haven't come on and haven't made it as a...
For the record, Matthew Cottrell has always been a rookie.
The point others are making is that when their rookie contact is up, other clubs can take those players if they are not elevated to the senior list.
Carlton did the same with Matthew Kennedy last year and he started playing well. We...
I think Hawthorn did the right thing in the end. Carlton sold off all of their draft currency 6 years ago and struggled since. Yes we got some good players to take us forward but equally we threw some kids to the wolves and possibly ruined their careers.
Having those veterans around them might...
James Aish and Andrew Phillips are at their 3rd clubs. Aish is only 25 so could easily bounce around again.
Phillips is 30 but you never know with ruckmen.
GWS wins pretty easily still IMO.
They have done well with holding on to the players they really wanted to keep. They allow the long term injured to leave to free up cap space, but have kept most of their elite players.
Kelly, Whitfield, Coniglio, Cameron, Greene, Davis, Haynes and Ward are...
We'd need to show a bit this year to convince best 22 players from any Vic based sides to join us. Fellow strugglers have as much cash as us to retain their players, and some of our young guys could be targets themselves.
It is feasible we use the Crows first and our 2020 first in separate...
Maybe, unless the two play in the same position.
Is this what we are potentially doing with Walsh over Lukosius and Rankine?
There is another side of course and that is how effective certain types can be in a deficient side and are they prepared to wait.
You keep returning to the same thing ... lack of leadership.
I'm floored that you haven't noticed how Cripps lead the side this year when Murphy was out. Not only that but he is a teacher and a leader at training. Having said that, he probably isn't even the best leader at the club with Sam...
I couldn't care less what you think of us.
Fact is, we drafted poorly and we developed poorly for a long time. We also went for the magic Malthouse option. Many people in and around the club weren't thrilled with this situation.
When you say Carlton created the situation, are we talking...
In pretty much every case, those other bottom four clubs had far more quality in that 24 and over group. About the only time we didn't have that excuse was against Freo a couple of weeks ago.
A PP may address that age profile problem a little IF we trade it.
Teams don't want their draft order affected by early PPs. State league players have already been passed over previously. This just gives some teams access to those players who have turned in a brilliant state league season first. Surely it's preferable to being able to grab a Lukosius and a...
So you've counted high draft picks that came to us from other clubs as though they have maintained that ranking.
You say you have analysed the table in depth and determined there might be other issues at Carlton that a PP won't fix.
I wish people would listen to what the club have been...
Agreed. They are seasonal threads anyway. They fade when a player is drafted, traded or signs a new contract. Different than a team board thread which is there for their whole career and then as a historical reference.
Yeah they do I think. I'm not a fan but each to their own. I consider the player threads to be a reference library with all in the one place rather than buried deep in the archives. We haven't dragged too many across this season though, hasn't been much to say I guess.
We drag a few across after games when a player is topical and send them back when the discussion dries up. Far easier to find on the sub board for those who don't search prefixes.
It's a good idea for the draft board as the names are seasonal in a sense.
You mean permanently relocate player threads to the draft board or move some across to further conversation and move them back to the player board when the conversation dies down?
Let me try again. He is a 25 year old physically developed player with 102 games of experience. We have so many kids, we had to add a couple of older heads around them. Shaw is more developed than Boekhorst who never put on any size and was not physical at all.
Clearly we have recruited him for...
He's harder at it than Boekhorst. He will put his body on the line, at least according to his suspension vids.
He has experience though so will be a voice in the VFL at least.
