To get past the group stage in the World Cup we need 2 strikers up front

Definitely need 2 strikers, but if Pim isn't willing to go attacking against minnows like Uzbekistan, what chance of him having 2 strikers in a World Cup where there level is much much higher? Pim is taking a conservative approach, and its working for now. But better teams will tear Australia...

Brisbane kid off to Man U

holy sh*t, this kid is awesome! He's like a pro player in a kids body, haha. If he turns out any good i hope he plays for australia and not england (opening credits state he is british)

AFC Asian Cup - Quarter Final 3: Japan v Australia

Weird fixturing. The semi-final shouldn't allow teams from the same group to meet. Neill back into the side. Not sure Kewell & Cahill can squeeze anyone out of the starting 11, though Cahill thoroughly deserves to be starting (fitness permitting).

    Aloisi joining Sydney FC?

I've read that he's had some offers from England, so the deal with Sydney FC is far from done yet. Would be great to see him playing in Australia.

Asian Cup Qualifier: Australia v Bahrain

Very frustrating match to watch. Bahrain kept diving and faking injuries. Was the referee an amateur? Had no control over the game and should have handed out a couple yellow cards to discourage the constant fake injuries. Australia lacked creativity going forward. Kewell makes us an...

    2018 WC bid: it's on.

BW is right, 2018 will almost certainly be back in Europe, and with the rapid growth of soccer in Asia, I'm sure there will be a strong push for 2022 to be held there. Stadium issues aside (a lot can happen in 12 years e.g, AFL teams disperse to ACT/TAS/NT and appropriate stadiums are...

    Should Harry Kewell play?

2nd half sub in the 1st leg, then depending on how he goes, make an assessment for the 2nd leg.

    Socceroos chances in 2nd leg

I was sitting here wondering why I couldn't remember starting this thread  Hopefully things will turn out better this time.

    Australia vs Argentina

Yeah, I'll give you that. Wouldn't make sense. But generally, I'd like to see Kalac take over the role of #1 keeper.
  10. daddy_4_eyes

    Australia vs Argentina

Kalac in goals for Schwarzer. I'm not a fan of Mark, and think he is seriously overrated by Farina, let alone the Aussie fans who don't really see Kalac play much. But bloody hell, do the Aussies have a lot of top players missing.

    Bosnich sacked

He never really lost any form. At Man U he was simply replaced by a higher profile goalkeeper (not a better one by a long shot) and at Chelsea he was the victim of too much depth (had 7 clean sheets in his 7 games last season with Chelsea, then he got injured and never regained his spot)...

    Asia wants Oceania

Ahhh, so now Oceania has something Asia wants. Lets see how long it takes for the OFC to give up their WC spot to asia...

    Farina

    Care to elaborate?
  15. daddy_4_eyes

    Farina

Sack him. Countries have sacked coaches for a lot less (French coach got sacked despite winning Confed cup and Euro champs, Poland coach got sacked despite taking the country to the WC for 1st time in 16yrs. etc). I still want Postecoglou as coach, with Cullina as 2nd favourite.

ONC Final -- Socceroos v New Zealand -- Official thread

I've been calling for Farina's head for a long time now, and these Oceania matches have only strengthened my dislike of Farina as Socceroos coach. Like I said in a previous post, Postecoglou, Cullina, Krncevic, etc are all more qualified for the job and would probably be on lesser pays.

    Socceroos ONC semifinal opponent is...

If it wasn't for the fact that SA desperately need the money from the confederations cup to ease the financial pressure, i would have hoped for a socceroos loss. Maybe it would have shown Farina that Australia is not as strong as he thinks. Bringing in an all NSL team is barely good enough, he...

Farina hopeful of better Leeds relationship

All Venables will care about is getting the best results possible for Leeds, if that means not releasing Kewell and Viduka then so be it. I can't believe Farina is so naive as to believe the situation will change. He should really base himself in europe and play friendlies when the european...

Socceroos -- Oceania Nations Cup preview

Yes, its pretty sad to see a player like Kewell or Viduka, who are on $60k+ a week contracts not willing to play for free, whilst NSL players who are on $50k a year contracts are. But as they say, money makes the world go round (or around, whichever it is). If SA had a lot of cash sitting...

Socceroos -- Oceania Nations Cup preview

Considering Soccer Australia's financial woes, you would think Farina would have called up a few more European based players. Maybe not the stars, but the fringe players wanting to permenantly break into the National team, players like Bosnich, Aloisi, etc. With the WC just finished, they...

    Farina

and He certainly got us a lot closer than anyone else has in the last 20-something years. He also never had trouble getting the european based players to play for Australia and always got the best out of them. Frank can do neither.
  22. daddy_4_eyes

    Farina

I can't say I'm too rapt about this. Farina is too inexperienced to lead a national team. He is also tactically weak, has a primitive playing style (4-4-2 with no new concepts) and is very naive in terms of how highly he rates australia and how lowly he rates other nations (evidence being that...

Who else is pulling an all nighter??

I'm doing an all nighter at a mates place. He has a Hub so bout 5 of us are gonna have a LAN, then watch the socceroos at 6am. Add a bit of alcohol, junk food, loud music, and suddenly this could be one of the greatest nights ever. Now all we need is women, but I'm yet to meet a woman...

    Socceroos chances in 2nd leg

    Uruguay get cocky again!

Recoba is a tosser. His team was pressed the whole game, only reason they conceded just one goal was because they had 8 defenders and the goalkeeper sitting in the penalty area the whole game. I hope Australia beats their silly @rses, that way their cocky team will have disgraced their whole...
