What's the best season by a midfielder since the 2000s

Nah mate no way is Juddy overrated that year. Judd was our X Factor for 2006, so fast and agile and gazelle like, yet 2006 was also his second best year ever for contested possessions, which people may not know. He had 324 contested possessions that year, next best in the AFL was Simon Black...

    Patrick Dangerfield vs Ben Cousins

Back in Cousins day (2005) no one in the entire league averaged more than 29 touches a game. This year currently, 9 players average more than 30 touches a game. So the era's are quite different when looking at stats. Statistically, Cousins has never had the numbers Danger had in 2016/2017 in...

    Patrick Dangerfield vs Ben Cousins

Hi Everybody Bit premature as Danger is still playing, but who is/was the better player? Lets not go into Cousins well publicized drug issues and just compare the two greats on how they went about it on the field. Both were quite frenetic and it seems a decent comparison for me (being biased...

    Tredrea vs Brown vs Riewoldt

Tredrea & Riewoldt >>> Brown. I cant decide on Roo and Tredrea, different type of players. People forget Tredrea was a beast, so strong. Roo was the Rob Harvey of big fellas.

    Sam Mitchell v Dane Swan

This thread just made me realize that sammy mitchell has a vfl mvp (Liston medal, did not know this, what a champ) and so does Priddis for wafl (sandover), both are also brownlow medalists for afl, playing in the same team. Probably only time ever its happened in afl era I would think. Anyway...

    Best Center Clearance Player

what do you mean by ''stroke''? ;)

    Best Center Clearance Player

Hory shet Shuey and Pridda top 3 for centre clearances! All hail Nic Nat!
  8. J

    Luke Hodge v Chris Judd

Judd over Hodge. Judds 5 goals (in a half) as a 20 year old at the gabba against one of the greatest teams of all time, the lions, against a seasoned hardened GOAT midfield, at their peak. Pretty sure Judd hasnt slipped outside top 3 in a club b and f ever in full seasons played. His accolades...

    Luke Hodge v Chris Judd

I would assume he means lacking when compared to Chris Judds early years. Which is this threads whole point. In which case severely lacking. Hodge was also a good player at that time? Yeh he was, but he wasn't unanimously the best player in the comp, who the year before won a brownlow, all aust...

    Dale Thomas vs. Sharrod Wellingham

Thomas back in 2010/2011 was one of my most liked players, inside out bananas, tackle frenzy, screamers the whole lot. Big game player, ankles can ruin you but. IMO ankle reconstruction same as knee reconstruction in terms of getting over it and somewhat back to your best. Thomas is way better...

    Brad Hill Vs Stephen Hill

True dat, great game the other day
  12. J

    L. Hodge v M. Voss

Voss in every category and facet of the game. Even comparing them as Captains, Voss was one of the greatest leaders ever.

    Second Teams

I like Richmond because they suck and they picked up Cousins.
  14. J

    Brisbane 01-03 v Geelong 07-11 v Hawthorn 08-14.

As much as it pains me to say this but yeh if the Hawks win this years GF they will be up there for sure in terms of teams that everybody hates/respects.
  15. J

    Steve Johnson v Jason Akermanis

The very best mids from most eras would have a 30 touch game every 3-4 games, not every 35 games. Voss did, Black did, Cousins did, Buckley did, Williams did. Bradley did. Mathews did. Akermanis did not. Basically he is a forward and by god he could kick bags of goals right up to the end.
  16. J

    Steve Johnson v Jason Akermanis

I never considered Aker as a mid, he was a forward. He only ever had over 30 touches like 7 times or something over 300 games. Good comparison. I would take Aker, Stevie very close. Both could have absolute s**t days.

    Brad Hill Vs Stephen Hill

people saying Brad Hill oh hes only outside yeh but hes an amazing runner how many times has he provided a get out option for hawthorn in the back end of quarters through sheer will. plays his role as well as anyone in his team especially since the hawks are full of slow senile players.
  18. J

    Brad Hill Vs Stephen Hill

Brad Hill is legit. Too legit to quit.
  19. J

    Luke Hodge v Chris Judd

Hodge will probably be close to making Hawthorns Team of the Century, will certainly not be in the AFL TOTC. Judd is almost certain to be in both Carlton and West Coast's TOTC and close to making AFL TOTC. Quite different players, but really Judd is better in more areas and at his peak clearly...

    Peter Daicos v Stevie J

Just scrolled through and someone said Stevie J got Geelong home in 07 GF. LOL that's enough for me I'm outta here.

Better career - Riewoldt, Brown, Tredrea, Pavlich

The Pav Man. next up would be Roo = Tredrea. Brown not far off. Tredrea was a beast for a couple of years there and I would take his absolute best over the others absolute best.
  22. J

    Sam Mitchell v Dane Swan

Ohhh i dunno who to vote for can I just say they are both champs and leave it at that. Actually I vote Sam, just as hard as Hodge but with silky skills, kind of like Daniel Kerr. Although Swan is dope too.

    Best of the 2008 draft

Wow quite a good batch of young players there, I reckon Beams atm. Hill would be the worst of the lot and hes not exactly crap.
  24. J

    Daniel Cross vs Luke Ball

Ball. His 2005 was quite good, better than any of Cross's years. Most teams would be able to find a starting spot for both of them. Its that hard work/sacrifice/tackling thing that gets them a game every time.

Greatest modern rivalry: Geelong vs Hawthorn OR Sydney vs Westcoast

WCE VS SS, They played each other in 4 finals matches over 2 years. They are both the last teams to win a GF the ‘’hard way’’ by playing an away prelim and in all 4 finals games in total (from the top four). The Nick Davis 4 goal last quarter in that semi final, Leos mark, The Drought breaker...

    Moved Thread Dale Thomas

I hope his ankle is all good those things can ruin you. Spraining your ankle all the time will actually shift the ankle joint over slightly making future sprains alot more common. Just ask Daniel Cross. His best is at Collingwood for sure i reckon.

    Pavlich vs. Goodes

If you are reffering to Polly its certainly not beyond questioning. No one has watched all 100+ years of aussie rules in its entirety and people who put him so high up theres no oxygen are sentimental idiots. My Grandfather watched him in person and said he deserved his Legend status and to a...

    Pavlich vs. Goodes

The word considered (that I used) meaning think about it before coming to a decision, certainly not set in stone. Are your reffering to Polly?
  29. J

    Pavlich vs. Goodes

Simply put more people thought he was going to win yes thats right it was the smart bet, but your not going to back Judd as the eagles had more than one standout in the midfield, all proven vote getters too (The year before, Kerr finished sole runner up to Cousins, and the year before that Judd...

    Pavlich vs. Goodes

Took the words right out of my... keyboard! Its usually the top 2 players from each club maybe 10-12 clubs that win it. I love me some Goodes and the fact hes playing on into his 30s endears him to me even more. Old dudes playing AFL level football is just the dopest mayn.
