Marco knows golf and NOTHING else. :grinv1: From what I heard around this area, most of the kids who went to Oakleigh Tech in the old days were the dumbest boys at the surrounding primary schools, or very good cricketers (the principal was a huge cricket fan, and the ground and pitch were just about district-level)
The ground was small , but the pitch was as good as anywhere

I get the impression that SEN might be signing up a few on smaller contracts than the past few years. Wouldn’t surprise to see some of the higher paid talent moving on in the next 12-18 months.

It's also hard to get guys to do odd shifts even on weekend unless they want a career in the media, their normal work has some flexibility or they really need the money

I was surprised he got a second contract.

The objective there was clear, but really ambitious - it wanted to create appointment radio for sports talkback ala Faine or Mitchell. Unfortunate Melbourne doesn't care for 3 hours of footy talkback every day, and I don't think they particularly care for Whateley.

It was an interesting idea, but at the rumoured half a mil a year it's been a spectacular failure.

I used to listen to it a little bit, and even as a footy head it wasn't even enough to keep me engaged, much less the person surfing the radio who might've stopped on footy talkback for a few minutes. They're turning it off after 20 minutes cos the commentary is inane, the callers are generally nuffies, and the ads are exhausting.

He is overpaid but
1) The station needs a 'number one caller'
2) He works alot of shifts

Whately and Buckley doing footy previews inc the Friday night blockbuster between the two most popular Clubs in the country.

They do not once mention the team with the biggest supporter base.

SEN has a remarkable ability to score own goals. No wonder the joint is in strife.

u talkin the club that failed to sell out a home friday night opening round game that managed to only muster 44k bodies in a city of over 5million ? the game that had a 5 day celebration party and build up like none before in Australias most populated city,
that club ? is that the most supported club in Australia ? interested in the evidence to that claim. is the evidence the AFL ? the owners of the club

RUOK

Whateleys show is decent on a Monday but definitely tapers off after.

Pipe could definitely do with a rotating co host for at least an hour of his show, as the straight man to Broden Kelly was hilarious.

Andy and Andy surely could be improved. Need someone a bit younger, a Josh Jenkins paired with someone who has chemistry. Give people an alternative to the rush hour.

Something that's not just a rehash of the days events after 8pm. Ideally along finey's show, historical stories, old sports memories and topics, obscure former players, country and suburban footy even extend to a some old album or band reviews.

I'm not one to listen live much as ad content is just beyond the pale now but would happily listen to more podcasts.

Yeah call me a weirdo but I used to enjoy Fineys old “Initially speaking” show, had a crew of regular callers that came up with some good stuff.

And from memory they did a lot of the history stuff the next night which brought back some memories

Fine's back, and I'm very fine with it. A people's autodidact intellectual, with some Lou Richard's pinache.

The ratings didn't change much since the last survey, but they're better than the same time last year, with the exception of evenings

Bringing Gerard Healy across to do Sportsday hasn't really provided any uplift in that timeslot, although it's hard to be precise because of how the slots are timed.

I don't think any new/old host can do much to lift SEN's ratings considerably. Maybe 1-1.5 points here or there (which would be a sizeable gain come to think of it!)

I reckon this format and style of programming has found its audience share at around this level.

I know it’s talk back radio but would adding music be something they could change to? Similar to the FM Stations. Couple of songs and then some sport chat.
It would break up the mundane boring talk to just fill in time.

Hear! Hear! 'been saying that for ages. Will never happen though, akin to waving the white flag (should have been half music half talk from the very outset) and it's not a great frequency for tunes these days
