These groups made an impact on the music of that decade. Bands like Oasis and Blur were amongst the most famous. I like those two bands but are there any posters here who are fans of Suede? I've listened to some of their songs and I'm not really a big fan of them. What do you find appealing about them?

Cant remember any of there songs except 'Animal Nitrate' and 'Metal Mickey' which i've heard in the last 2 weeks thanks to my collection of 'Rage' tapes. Hearing them and seeing that britpop show on SBS the other week remind me i liked them and Pulp more than Oasis and Blur!!

Suede were quality! :thumbsu:

Heaps of great songs such as

She's In Fashion, Electricity, The Wild Ones, Beautiful Ones, Everything Will Flow...

I loved Wild Ones when it came out, still do.

Anderson was too girly though. didnt have the persona of a Gallagher or a Cocker.

Suede were good, but Butler was the talented one and once he left they weren't as good.

Ricky Gervais actually managed them early on in the piece.

Love Suede. I could just list songs of theirs that I like, but that would be pointless (though someone should have mentioned Trash by now). But I will say that if you like Suede, you should look into Tears, which included Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler from Suede. Particularly for their tracks Refugees and Co-Star.

Suede were great. They were the ones that actually gave rise to Brit Pop.:thumbsu:

Stone Roses??

I love Suede (hey I just love Britpop). You can just hear the emotion in Brett's voice, and in the guitar....everything. Very powerful music, particularly if you're in that frame of mind. Yet even with incredibly dark overtones, you still manage to produce perfectly catchy Britpop tunes - think Animal Nitrate (my favourite Suede song). Makes me want to cry my eyes out (many times it has!) and yet still sing along!

I don't like their later stuff as much...the self-titled album is the best for me, followed by Dog Man Star. I wasn't as moved by songs from other albums.

That's cause Anderson was crap and Butler was the talent. :thumbsu:

Overrated 'Hype' band.
More interested in style than substance.

Rubbish. Sure they were hyped up a lot, but their first 2 albums (the ones made with Bernard Butler on guitar) are classics. Coming Up isn't too bad, but I don't like the rest of their catalogue... The first disc of the B-sides album (with Butler), Sci-Fi Lullabies is amazing. Their best songs are hard to pick, but if you are going to pick a few to download I would go with:
Pantomime Horse
So Young
She's Not Dead
Stay Together - get the full 8 minute version if you can find it!
The Wild Ones

You might wanna check out the media's contribution to Suede's image at the time.

I realise that,
but the "New Bowie" Anderson crap just didn't click with me.
and i think he got swept into the whole image thing at the expense of the music. To me they certainly didn't sound innovative and in the end were just another hair band.

Sorry, love most British bands, Britpop was fantastic,
but by the time Cool Brittania arrived, they missed the boat.

I hardly think Anderson is crap, listen to his voice, but you're right about Butler.

I have.

And he has as much personality as a limp bit of lettuce.

That's why Suede didn't hit the heights of the others, their lead singer wasn't a Liam Gallagher or Jarvis Cocker.

I've listen to their stuff again and Suede just don't click, mostly for reasons mentioned. That singer is a wuss and his voice is very annoying. Morrissey from the Smiths was a better vocalist and this will sound very disturbing, I'd rather listen to Boy George than Suede. That's how annoying Anderson is. Maybe if they had a different singer, I might have more respect for them but their guitar hooks weren't anything like Blur or Oasis. Pulp provide a better listening experiance too.

"The Drowners" could really have been a classic if Anderson didn't sound so much like pansy.
