As disappointing as this year has been, call me optimistic but I think we can change it around next year....

Main reasons being hopefully getting a full year out of arguably our 3 best players, Coughlan, Simmonds and Brown. These 3 are match winners who could also make the kids stand taller in a crunch.

Another reason is the experience the kids are getting will only make them better in 2008. Players such as Deledio, Foley, Tambling, Raines, Polo, Pattison, Meyer, Edwards, Thursfield, Jackson, Riewoldt, Hughes, King, Casserley, Mcguane, Oakley-Nicholls, Connors, White, Schultz and even Polak are all 23 and under and represent our future...

Also as were likely to finish last hopefully in the pre season we can pick up someone of the caliber of Nick Stevens. Also in the draft we'll certainly pick up onballer Trent Cotchin who I believe will play and make a similar impact as Marc Murphy..

I know 2008 is a fair way away, but theres not to much else to get excited about... We have to keep playing the kids, and make the tough decisions and not so tough decisions with the likes of P. Bowden, R. Hall, T. Knobel, B. Hartigan, K. Moore, A. Krakouer, K. Pettifer and C. Hyde either being delisted or being traded.

Lets keep the faith!!!

I think we can change it around this year. If anyone thinks that Essendon, North and Hawthorn are all six- or seven-game better sides than Richmond and Melbourne they're delusional.

We just need to keep working hard, a stroke or two of good fortune, and then let the momentum develop. We obviously won't play finals, but six or seven wins is not out of the question. That would be a great way to approach the draft/trade/preseason periods.

Very true GhostofJimJess very true. Just look at Essendon.

They could have lost those three games in the past three weeks, which they won be a point and they would be 4-7 rather than 7-4. There is a lot of luck and favorable decisions which can make or break a team season. I have NO DOUBT we will turn it around even before this season is over trust me.

You can add Carlton to that list. There is no reason why we can't win 10+ games. We did it in 2006, but in 2007 we have missed Brown, Cogs and Simmonds and that is the reason we have not won 4 or 5 games this season. I can gaurantee we would have beat Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Brisbane and maybe another if we had those 3 players in the team. Who knows we may have beat Sydney, West coast and Adelaide. We could have had anything between 3 and 7 wins so far this season. Next year they will be back and our youngsters will be better and our list will be stronger. Good enough to win 10+ next year

So tell us why essendon won 3 games last year? the same reason we have struggled this year.

1 thing to be happy about this season is we have been competative (excluding the geelong game). We will be much better next season.

I don't think there will be a huge improvement next year, just more gradual improvement across the board. Yeah, we get Brown and Coughlan back and a lot more out of Simmonds, but we'll be cutting quite a few older blokes as well so we'll still be left fielding a 22 each week that will have a lot more under 22's than anyone else and as a result we won't be able to win that many games because we won't physically be able to match it with other sides.

Thought that too, but what value really have they been this year to miss when they go. Hopefully the games under the belt to the younger ones will counteract that.
I reckon we'll be on a par with how we are this year but getting more experience into the youngins.
Still a few years to go unfortunately, but after next year I expect gradual improvement up the ladder.

So, by your logic, we were an 11-win better team last year than this year?

Maybe if we can coax Staff, AK, Chaff and Gas out of retirement and regain the exquisite skills and indispensible input of Limbach, Roach and Humm we'll be back on the fringe of the Top 8 again.

And a 7 or 8-win better team than Essendon, Roos and Carlton again, rather than the other way around.
