Personally, I think Goldstein will re-sign with Norf before the next season is over. Cunnington will also stay at Norf.

Also, IIRC Kolo's brother also re-signed with the GCS this year for three more years.

Sidebottom will stay at Collingwood, they really need him. Hawthorn might make a play for him.

Rich could be a chance to leave the Lions, but I can't help feel his best is past him. I'll have to see how he plays in 2016.

I think next year we'll see a bigger focus on youth, than trading at Geelong.
I think the trade:draft ratio at the end of next season will hinge on the 2009 crop staying fit, BNF. If we lose 2 of those, for example, I think we'll plug a couple of holes there.

If all stay pretty for, I agree that we won't want to miss 2 draft years.

Last year, Vdubs. Goldstein won this year.
Where was Cunners this year? Sorry, poorly worded by me, I had Goldy as my MVP this year, and aware of his B&F. I think Cunnington was right up there again.

I think if we're going to target any FA we should really look at former Geelong Falcon players, the come home factor may really play in our favour. But for next year, I think the cap may be an issue when it come to big name players.

I thought our SC was looking pretty healthy- and, with maybe another retirement or two next year- and the following year, it might even look better.

Agree with the Falcon 'come home' factor. That's working in our favour atm, isn't it? (apart from Christensen...)

Can't imagine we have too much space left, brought in players who'd at best guess cost us $2 million a year , lost around 400k from our veterans allowance. Gave pay rises to Guthrie, Blicavs and Motlop etc.

Once Bartel, Boris and Loners retire, if all 3, I wonder how much that will free up, and who, apart from Mackie, will be our veterans in 2017?
Taylor, ??

Collectively I'd say they'd be on around a million year, of which 125k per player doesn't fall in the cap due to the veterans list. Then we have to fill up the list spots so that is an additional 80k per spot. So it would "free up" around 450k in total. But that money isn't really freed up since other players like Thurlow, Lang, Gregson and Cockatoo etc will be looking for their next pay rise, of which 100k per player could only be a start.

On the plus side, 2017 is when Selwood and Hawkins qualify for the veterans list. Taylor does so in 2018. However there has been talk lately that the veterans list might be cut by then.

Isn't there going to be more money in the cap and won't that help next year?

But the cap rises for everyone, so the cost in $$ to bring in new talent will also increase.

Also players would have clauses in their contracts that increase their wages in proportion to any increases in the salary cap from the new collective bargaining agreement. Otherwise no one would be signing any long term deals. The only way it might "create" some money is if the base wages don't increase to the same extent of the total salary cap. But all this would do is drive up wages for higher end players even further.

I like him but looking at all the players that id like to add , looking at how we could possibly do it .. Getting the twin setup is probably less likely for us than id like.
To have any chance at all... JK would have to be a solid secured member of the side, our side would have to be recognised as back in flag contention , we would have to need the type of player that KK is and we would have to have something to get the deal done.
I don't think that it's likely to happen at the end of 2016 due to us not having enough currency, but I see it as a huge possibility for 2017 or 2018 depending on when he comes out of contract.

Schofield would be good.

Wouldnt mind having a crack at geary if we dont put guthrie back and enright retires-need a small defender.

Goldstein is the one though-would seriously retire a few blokes and trade out for cap space to fit him in.
Nick Smith from Sydney is the one that I would be looking long and hard at if I were at the club PO. There were rumours a couple of years ago during the trade period that there was some mutual interest so perhaps we've been in touch with his manager for quite some time...

I'm pretty sure that the decision has been made to scrap the veterans list by the end of 2017. I'm happy to be corrected by anyone though...
