Now this is where the scoring system is completely ****ed. Pretty easy to have good DE when you’re sitting down back. In and under ball winners with 6 blokes hanging off them disadvantaged. This game used to reward contested highly. Last few years it’s flipped to be all about DE. Correct that back to the way it rightly was and all the BS goes out of the game and Luke Ryan becomes the spud he is.

You'd think the lack of attention opposition clubs give players like Ryan would be a dead giveaway. Ryan will rack up stats whether Freo win or lose. How well Clark performs is a much better indicator of their success, and his role is still less important than their inside mids (though he is far, far more damaging than Ryan).

Ruckmen are draught horses, there's a code of honour.
If a prancing pony mid does it, it's not flash, but it's not unexpected.
A ruckman throwing the head back and pretending someone's shot him from the grassy knoll at the slightest contact is as weak as it gets.
But if it works for him, good luck to the bloke.

Houston has won contests, kicked three snags, given them drive plus all day.
He and JHF Port's best.

12 contested and 24 disposals vs 6 contested and 17.

Pre-COVID there was 20+ points advantage to the former, not the latter.

That was when the game scoring was better, IMO. I don’t know why suddenly they made contested less important and DE more important, but it’s given us bullshit results such as Luke Ryan.

Kick ins should be 2 or 3 points only - at the moment kicking long to a contest gets maximum points!

Even better. Playing on from full back and kicking out is 0 points. Just the same as if you kick it out from within the square. That would fix A LOT of the BS.

How has Visentini been scoring?
Is it HTAs and tackles?.
Haven't seen him using it or getting involved in chains and his hitouts are low.
Maybe most of those are to advantage

CD flogs traded Sweet to Visentini for the quick cash grab. He’ll resume shit scoring once Sweet comes back and they do the reverse trade.

Houston plays nothing like Luke Ryan, drives the ball forward and takes aggressive options all the time + hits the scoreboard, they both intercept mark but that’s about it.
