VFL 2024 Swans Reserves

What is going on with the reserves? They were 25 points up at one stage. Is it the coach? Is it lack of depth? Someone said Buller was poor yet he started the season quite well. If the coach has lost the players their performance will be affected.

Buller’s body language wasn’t great.

Seemed to teapot whenever delivery wasn’t perfect & his second effort chasing didn’t seem particularly committed.

I just don’t know what happened today. A bright start, then we started to play slow and wide …. And got destroyed on turnover (and at the stoppages).

Coaching? Effort? Both?

I just don’t know.

Either way, in the 2nd half we had 15 AFL listed players to their 8.

Not good.

Didn't help when Konstanty went off at half time (as the AFL emergency), and then both Warner and Kirk got injured and didn't play the 2nd half.

The break for the injury in the 3rd was the straw that broke the camel's back.

The rot set in before the injury - but we certainly dropped our bundle when play resumed.

Remember, they lost Wingard and the poor bloke that broke his leg. So both sides were depleted in the 2nd half.

I just thought our effort was lacking.

I think it is partially down to how we built our 44 player list. We have got a lot of depth in the talls because previously the senior team has struggled when we have had injuries in that area.

So the reserve team is not as suited to moving the ball around and using running players. It feels like we try to surge it forward to a contest with our talls and try and lock it in the attacking half. But we can be outrun and struggle to move the ball upfield with our kicking.

But it is an opportunity for our younger smalls/mediums to step up and play that role.

Parker finished with a game high 34 disposals, six tackles and five clearances

Angus Sheldrick was busy for the Swans, finishing with 22 touches, a game high 10 tackles and four clearances, while Caiden Cleary (20 disposals) and Will Edwards (17) also got plenty of the ball.

Versatile tall Aaron Francis also had a good day, taking nine marks to go with 22 disposals and a goal.

Ruckman Peter Ladhams also hit the scoreboard, kicking a goal to go with his 16 disposals, 19 hit outs and seven clearances.

I wish people would stop hitting scoreboards and start kicking goals

I actually think Hustwaite was robbed.

And Parker did rack-up a lot of late possessions when the game was well & truly lost. Not sure he was 2nd best on ground.

I like the fact you’ve posted this.

I hate the fact that Gus and Campbell are in the VFL.

I want to give it both a 👍 and a 😞

I've watched a few games now and I must say that I was impressed by the size of Will Kelly. However, after watching a few games I realised that is his only attribute, so I wonder if he will still be around next season?
