Out of interest, Hawthorn are a likely top 4 side this year, which of their talls did they draft in the first round?

Brisbane are the reigning premiers, which if their talls did they draft in the first round?

Sydney drafted one key forward, outside of that…

Geelong’s backline is built on SDK at 18 ish.

Point is, you can find tall backs and rucks reliably later in the draft. We tried and missed.

What you struggle to find later is elite mids and tall forwards.

That needs to be our focus.

Our best result is keep Butters, AFL doesn’t make a terrible decision and keeps the rules as is until 2028, they add the stupid shuffle back situation rule and someone bids on Dougie after our first pick. We claim the best mid we can and take Dougie.

Honestly pay Butters 3 mill for 2 years and get us past Tassie.

We are lucky that Rodans kid has to pick between us and Essendon, I would still pick us bias aside
Come here and earn a spot in the team, maybe debut year 1, maybe not.... or stay in Melbourne with family/friends and walk into Essendon's R1 team because he's better than half the squad? Interesting dilemma.

Templeton, Patterson and Edwards would suit us as players that can start forward and then roll into the midfield. One of these three and Cochrane would be a huge win. Adding Pilot, Salopek, Rodan and Tambe the year after, gets us a lot of talent quickly.

Suddenly you have a midfield of Rozee, JHF, Salopek, Wines, Drew + 2026 draftee. Forward line of Georgiades, Whitlock and Pilot and Rodan at their feet. Backline of Aliir, Ratugolea, Jones, Cochrane, Tambe, Ramm and BZT.

Hodgeson will be a watch. Intercept defender, if he can get over his injuries, could be that half back that has potential to play midfield. Could even just be a solid half back interceptor.

Young as a rookie NGA kid seems promising.

If we end up with pick 3 or 4 it would be interesting if we try to trade for pick 1 from Essendon, say pick 3 and pick in the teens or future picks for pick 1. We then bid on walker pick 1, draft someone at pick 2 and then Cochrane would get bidded on by another club at pick 3
Not sure we’ll be super keen to trade future picks into this year given matching our players in 27 will be hard enough as it is with Tassie gobbling up half the first round.

Take a look at this video, 'Jack Picket'

Our goal is Dougie and Jack Pickitt.
Dougie wants to be a mid and I see it.
Jack would be gold.

Flying early this season. Last seasons write up.

“GEELONG Falcons forward Jack Pickett is our Coates Talent League Player of the Week after booting a big bag of goals in Round 15. The bottom-ager slotted seven straight majors from 10 disposals and six marks, running at 100 per cent efficiency in the Falcons’ 70-point win over Western Jets on Saturday”

Port Adelaide shouldn’t win wooden spoons

You don’t need to finish bottom to bottom out
Not winning wooden spoons is not a badge of honour when you are never winning premierships.

I'd trade a premiership for a wooden spoon tomorrow if I could.

No one cares the crows won one in 2020. Infact I bet most have forgotten about it because it really isn't important.

Say this all the time to my west coast mate. Would much rather the 2018 flag then be shit for 5 years than what we got with Hinkley

I’m fairly sure we put out the most inexperienced side on field for the round. (Wines out was a big reason of course)
Sweet was our 3rd oldest player and has just turned 28.

Yes we have some pain to come however the parts that Carr wants to keep should be around for another 5 years (Aliir exception), so with the Cochrane, Pilot, Salopek, Rodan plus 1-2 other picks, maybe a big FA play, and it can turn around within 3 years.

But we are paying the price of playing at the top end for a number of years without the euphoria of a premiership to look back on.

Yep both teams had about 75 average games experience

Agree to disagree

Port Adelaide win premierships, not wooden spoons.

Its in our DNA.

Spoons don’t guarantee success look at st kilda.
