Kingsley, Knobel and Hall retire.

Its not the way they wanted to go and never the right time, but Richmond trio Kent Kingsley, Trent Knobel and Ray Hall have announced their retirement from AFL football. Injuries played a significant factor in the decisions of all three, who were barely able to get on the field in 2007.
In Hall's case there's the added frustration being unable to play at all in 2007 because of a debilitating hip injury and finishing his career on 99 games for the Tigers.
But the versatile 26-year-old, who played in just about every position for Richmond during his nine seasons with the club, told the media at Punt Road on Tuesday that the decision was easy.
"It's sort of left me at the point where I have no choice - I can't play at this level or any level," Hall said.
"I'm certainly going to look back on this chapter of my life as a great time. I'm a better person now than when I started my footy and that's something I'm proud of.
"It's been enjoyable to find different challenges along the way. At times I played at full-back on the best forwards in the game … but it was good to be able to play in the midfield and run around and try and get a kick myself."
Knobel, 27, who like Hall, has been sidelined for the entire season after undergoing two bouts of ankle surgery, said he's keen to play again, most likely back at home on the Gold Coast.
"I'm very disappointed that it's been cut short with the ankle injury and it's been a very frustrating 18 months but in saying that I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life and I'm thankful to the Richmond Football Club for throwing me a lifeline when they did," Knobel said.
Kingsley managed three senior games for the Tigers in 2007 for a career total of 125 for Geelong where he spent six seasons in a key forward role and, before that, the Kangaroos (1999-2000).
He suffered an early setback to his time at Tigerland with pre-season ankle surgery and never managed to catch up.
"It's been a frustrating year and I don’t think I could personally go through it again," Kingsley said.
"There's other things I want to do away from football. I think I've given football everything I had for the 11 years I was involved but … it's now time to have a look at the rest of the world, I think."
The 28-year-old said he's keen to travel with South America the top of his list.

Re: Bye Bye

It's not as if Sheedy and Hird are leaving. Dale Weightman had more influence on the field in 2007 than this trio of bums.

Re: Bye Bye

So we have 4 confirmed "retirements" this year.
Gasper 192cm, Knobel 204cm, Hall 196 cm & Kingsley 193cm.
This is why I reckon we can't afford to trade/de-list Schulz & Moore. At least these guys are stronger taller depth players if nothing else.
We are starting to look short as well as skinny!

Re: Bye Bye

Congratulations on all three for getting the chance to wear our great jumper -something i never got close to doing.

Kent and Trent I hope you appreciated it. Ray i hope to hell that none of your offspring are any good as one game short of father son is a killer.

Re: Bye Bye

Hally can be proud, couple of highlights come to mind, the shirtfront in 2001 final on camporeale and that mark on the goal line against the Hawks that saved the game on last kick of the night...Good luck pal:thumbsu:
Agree. 99 more games than I've played.
And to add to that, Kingsley can be very proud as well. 124 games and 238 goals is no bad feat in anyone's book.

Perhaps we can do Jackson and name him this week and sit him on the bench for the day, you know just in case.:p

Re: Bye Bye

How long did it take him to realise this?

"It's sort of left me at the point where I have no choice - I can't play at this level or any level," Hall said.

Re: Bye Bye

Correct - with the answer and the suggestion.

rayzor can be happy with what he achieved. He was in the right place at the right time and got to wear the jumper 99 times. Good luck to him, he might not have had the skill, but he put in 110%. Knobo tried but failed.
Kingsley? who? Good riddance and bon voyage. Let the cats supporters farewell him, he gave us JS,stuck around for a year and got to do interviews on the sidelines, big deal. ;)

I did laugh at that

To answer your question, it has taken him 99 games and many years to realise!
But good luck to all three. Kent was the target of much vitriol, but it was not his fault we picked him up. Richmond chose to get him (Not that I had a problem with that) but he copped the criticism.

Gee, channel 10 gave it about 5 seconds worth of coverage. Disappointing.

No not disappointing at all... glad they did, it allows us to escape the embarassment of highlighting to the world that we actually had all three of these players on our list... AT THE ONE TIME!!!

I wanted to know more. They just said that the three players had retired.

Kent Kingsley only played a game for Richmond right?

i think moore is safe now - lucky boy

schulz is still tradeable in my book

Re: Bye Bye

makes just about any other player 188cm and over on our list safe i reckon. cant offload too many in one season.
good luck to all three especially rayo who was a better servant of the club than people give him credit for.

Unfortunately, we're stuck for much longer with the daily embarrassment which comes every time you touch the keyboard.
