Can we play 3 ruckmen in the same team?

Maybe not this week against Richmond as they dont have the best ruckmen in their squad, but say against Freo in round 22, Maybe we could play Rob Warnock as the starting ruckman against Sandilands and rotate him with "Sauce" Jacobs off the bench while having Hampson play as a forward with the occasional run in the ruck allowing Waite to go back and float accross in front of the oppositon defenders?

Fair enough this will obviously force someone out of the team, but maybe something like this could be trialled against the bigger and better ruckmen such as Sandilands and Jolly?

Thoughts?

No, Hampson is not good enough to play just as a forward. You can only play 3 ruckmen if one is a good forward as well. Next year Kreuzer will probably play forward pocket while Hampson and Warnock ruck.

Disagree.

If Kreuzer plays in the forward line for the vast majority, it could work.

Of course, you could construe that has playing 2 Ruckmen and 1 Forward, which doesn't really answer the question.

I was going to post this last week :)

I think we can. Maybe not right now, but eventually. It might be a case of whoever can learn to kick first. Jacobs is a bloody good mark, but kicked 1.5 last weekend. Hampson loves the pack marks we need but just isn't accurate enough yet..

Come back Kreuuzzzzzzzzz!

With rotations, the modern game requires 2 full-time rucks. Judd, Murphy and Gibbs deserve nothing less particularly if we're to reach the second week of the finals.

Warnock and Jacobs are the 2 best available rucks and so should work in tandem. No ifs, no buts.

So if Hampson gets a game ahead of Fisher and o'hAilpin as the 3rd tall forward, then yes!

^ What he said!

Warnock and Jacobs might be the best rucks (although that's arguable given that Hampson clearly has the better leap) but they provide little to no value up forward. While Hampson continues to do that he should remain in the side. What he provides is the flexibility that the team still needs (eg. when they have to put Waite down back to help out).

In the long term, I'm hoping that Hampson does develop into the forward he looks to be capable of being. If/when that happens, then we definitely will have the room to play 2 ruck plus Hampson in the side.

Hammer to take all the ruck work in the forward line and Warnock/Kruezer using their athleticism across the centre to get on to long kicks by the opposition defense coming out of our forward line.

Isn't it funny how people will tell you Hampson isn't good enough to play as a forward.......yet by and large, as a forward (as opposed to a ruck running forwards) he has done as well this year as Kreuzer did at any point. Yes.....yes......Kreuzer had that one good game vs Port last year as a leading forward.

Replication? No. So why then with the lack of evidence to support it do we continue to have the "Kreuzer could play KPF".

He might, but some seem convinced that he already can. I just haven't seen it TBH.

On the topic, I think it is a very good question, and I doubt we would sacrafice a running mid to do it unless Kreuzer is picked as a ruck rover type.

I just can't see the MC saying, right lets put Hammer at FF, Warnock in the first ruck (and on recent form vs some very good opposition that's exactly where he should be staying), and Kreuzer as well running around somewhere.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when Kreuzer is available. My tip, if he was available this week, would be Hampson out, Kreuzer in (despite my little opening rant, he is all round a much better footballer).

Jacobs is good enough to seek his chanccea as number 1 ruck back home in SA IMO. Has done very well from where he started, and would be sad to see him go, but I don't think he will be happy to cool his heels in the two's year after year waiting for an injury.

Where has the idea that a ruckman MUST be a KPF or at least rest there come from? I think Sauce offers the Defence a great deal because he is very good at reading the drop of the ball and positioning himself in a contest. He often drops back for the 'saving' mark in defense. Sauce could play a very similar role to Gardiner, saving marks and bobbing up for one or two goals a game.

I may be biased here but It P1sses me off that Sauce always plays with the desperation of someone trying to hold his spot (or possibly position in the club) and gives 110% wheres Hampson may be more athletic, but seems to lope around with no real concern (maybe with the knowledge he is safe at our club or has a fat contract waiting at the GC or Port whatever happens?)

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on Hammer but Sammy just seems to Bleed Blue Blood to me.

You would think Jacobs could get a job as the number 1 ruckmen in both SA teams in the very near future so I think he will go at some stage and we will pick up another young ruck in the draft and hopefully get a nice earlyish pick in the draft for Sammy.

I think there is a chance hammer will be developed as a forward if he can continue to read the play better and clunk those marks. He could be a perfect fit with Hendo, Betts, Yarran, Robinson and Jeffrey.

If there is an interchange cap, no chance. I'd honestly be surprised if we go into games with 2 rucks. It all depends on Hampsons development as a forward though. If he can keep it up and keep Setanta out of the lineup then once Kruezer's knee is better we'll probably just go with those two.

We'd need to look at our selection policies for sure though.

If there is going to be a cap and the team decides on Kruez with Setanta up forward or do they go with the Kruez, (warnock or hampson) duo, i firmly believe we have the room to move on sauce to GC plus a grigg for a low pick and grab a forward then simply pick a project ruckman with a late pick keeping the stocks full.

Either way someone will go at trade day, i just hope for once they play their cards right for the best result!
