Position: Utility
Height: 193cm
Weight: 83kg
Born: 24/11/1995
Home Club: Northern Knights

Still just 17 years of age, Bontempelli is a tall midfielder with great endurance and the flexibility to play almost any position on the ground.
After playing a lot of his career floating across half back and pinch hitting forward, the Northern Knight dominated as a midfielder in the second half of the 2013 season - showing his cleanness and proficiency around the contest, and the balance to receive the ball on the outside and finish with his damaging long left foot.
Bontempelli has enormous upside, and famously gathered 50 disposals and kicked ten goals in a school game for Marcelin.
The utility will join former captain and teammate Nathan Hrovat at the kennel after being selected with the Bulldogs first pick (4 overall) tonight at the Gold Coast convention centre.

For anybody interested, Bonti was the sports captain of Marcellin College (No easy gig, as Marcellin is a very sports orientated school) last year, which a) was obviously a leadership role and b) did require him to speak in front of 1200+ people on multiple occasions. Thought it might be handy for some people to know, particularly if anybody is potentially interested in his leadership qualities.

[To the tune of 'Eleanor Rigby']

just saw this, needed to be bumped if not moved to proper board, where it can be rightfully lauded.

Honestly my favourite player, I love to watch him and he always does well.
Anyone else notice him above hodge in the player ratings!

Absolute gun. Back to back best & fairests and he is only 22 this year. Could be the best player we have ever had one day.

Sorry to intrude but in analysing some midfield stats I came across a few that show just how insanely good this bloke is.

In his 2 games so far The Bont has had first possession from a hitout 17 times (average 8.5 per game) and him getting first hands on it has resulted in a clearance every single time. 100% hit rate.

For context, the Serongs, Cripps, etc. of the world normally average 6.5-8 and about 80-85%.

What's even more insane is that only 1 of the 17 first possessions has been a gather from a hitout to advantage. Most of the others are at about 30-50%.

Meaning this bloke has sharked/contested for first possession the ball 16 times and resulted in a clearance every single time. He's not even your hit-to mid and he's still winning it first.

That is insane.

Very interesting Themanbun - thanks.

Could probably attribute a decent bit of this to English regularly not winning taps. We rely on English’s around the ground work to be a net positive.

Bont’s ability to negate this and have his impact is immense.

Had Betts, Jezza, Buddy, Walker, Rioli, or anyone else kicked this goal they would have won goal of the year.

The bigger travesty was Lewis Taylor winning the rising star that year :confusedv1:
