4wd's

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Since I bought a bouquet 4WD two years ago (CRV) I have hardly driven anything else (Including BMW). The higher driving position, better visibility and versatility of the CRV makes shopping, going for a bike ride or even picking up a fridge on spec a breeze.

My wife and I love it. Turning circle makes parking so easy too.

My pet hate is 'panel vans'! So ugly, what do people see in them?

The worst problem with 4WD's, is the majority can't even handle them, watch them trying to pull into, or out of a parking spot, it takes them forever, if I see any of them going backwards & forwards more than 3 times to pull into or out of a parking spot, I yell out to them, "if you can't drive the f***ing thing, then stop driving it & get a smaller car".

That is one of the reasons why Ford are bringing out the Territory, their new "soft-roader" 4WD. The turning circle, and dynamics of it will be pretty much the same as the BA Falcon, which has been applauded for its ride and handling. It will therefore act more like a car, and less like a 4WD....meaning major reduction in body roll when cornering, great handling and of course moving a lot more like a sedan when turning/parking etc.

so, it is designed for city driving.

If you want the handling, comfort and security of a sedan, get a ****ing sedan!!!

It is designed to tap into the ever growing 4WD market. The fact that it also has an optional 3rd row of seats means it is designed for families who want the bigger feel of a 4WD...and don't want a Tarago or van etc. It will also have a very advanced 4WD system (no low range though) which means that there would be no problems for it to go off road.

Unfortunately you can't stop people buying them if they aren't going to take it off road.

Unfortunately they are becoming more and more useless for going off road. For example the New Pajero V6 has the fuel filter in the fuel tank (designed to be changed every 60000km which requires removal of the tank).

I wouldn't like to be stuck in the desert with a blocked fuel filter , a real probability when refueling from Jerry cans , drums etc.

mores the pity, however we should stop them putting bloody great cow catchers on the front of the.

Those things are deadly

Agree with you there, unless you are in the country, they should be banned.

They rank right up there with middle aged older women who drive Mercedes' in my list of hates on the road.

You can't see past them and most drivers of them seem to think they do not have to indicate as lesser cars will get out of their way anyhow.

In general there is no need for them, but its a free country so what can you do.

Having had my head merely centimetres from a bullbar (I was seated in the middle seat of a Barina without a headrest.... the other driver was in a Toyota Hiace) yes, I can vouch that the sheer strength of a bull bar combined with the height difference in our cars could have EASILY resulted in a fatality, had he been doing merely a couple of kilometres faster...

I think it's interesting that visibility was a selling point. Not because I don't understand the benefits but because that is one of the many things that is taken from passenger car drivers when encountering a 4wd. Kind of like it's important but it doesn't matter if noone else has it. (I know you didn't say that. ;) )

With the shopping centre car park question, how would 4wders feel having a separate section to park in? I'm not talking about a mile away from entrances or crappy areas, but that way most people would be happy. At the footy I have noticed that 4wd's are usually parked on the more hilly and grassy areas because they shouldn't have any problem driving away so it'd be kind of the same idea.

I agree about the bull bar ban too, unless driving above the 26th parallel anyway.

Why would they need one. If you're talking about the nuffies who can't park, well maybe they shouldn't be driving in the first place. If its visibility getting in and out of a car park, then you might as well add new sections for drivers of Taragos, Hiace Vans, Panel vans and the like as well.

When you say most people would be happy, you really mean you, don't you;)

Slightlu off topic, but I hate the tossers who get around in Hyundai's and other such little matchbox cars with all the ****y stickers, underbody flouro lights, massive spoilers etc., like they've come straight out of The Fast and the Furious or something. If anybody is driving around in their penis, its those wan kers

Or drive them, well that is 99% of 4wd owners who never take them off road, bloody hell, they can't even handle them in the city, imagine them in the bush.

My friends who have them, also have "normal cars", which they use to commute around the city, the 4wd's are only for the bush.

The term you are looking for is "Ricers"
