I can appreciate it being called a derby as a bit of fun. Or even the Kiwi-Clásico. But you are taking it way too seriously. A derby is between two teams that are local to each other. The rivalry has an added intensity because fans from the two clubs might work alongside each other, or even be family. That clearly isn't the case with Wellington vs Auckland. It's a regional rivalry.
