The Federal Court in Brisbane recently ruled that advertising claims made by the promoters of the Abtronic were misleading and deceptive to consumers. In another win for consumers as a result of action initiated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the Federal Court ruled that Danoz Direct, the promoter of the Abtronic, had to broadcast public announcements correcting the representations made.
Danoz Direct admitted during the proceedings that some claims advertised were misleading and in breach of the Trade Practices Act. These included that the Abtronic had a fat and cellulite blaster setting that could work on fat and not on a persons muscles; that the Abtronic could flatten a person's stomach once and for all; and that 10 minutes' use of the Abtronic was equivalent to up to 600 sit-ups.
Danoz Direct has asked customers who were misled by the advertising and bought an Abtronic to phone 1300 135 085 for a refund.
ACCC
They had me fooled. I thought all those bodybuilders owed all their cut abs and pecs to the Abtronic. I would never have guessed that they were paid actors who really spent 6 days a week in the gym.
