Richmond’s AFLW team will face Gold Coast (away), West Coast (home), and the Western Bulldogs (away) as part of Rounds 7-9 of the AFLW fixture announced by the AFL today.

The SUNS clash at Metricon Stadium next Friday, March 12, at 6.40pm (AEST) will be Richmond’s third consecutive Friday night game and the Club's second trip to Gold Coast in the past two years.

The Tigers were made to rue inaccurate kicking last season when they went down to the SUNS by just 11-points in Round 2, having held an early lead.

Richmond will then have a nine-day break before a home clash at the Swinburne Centre against West Coast on Sunday, March 21, at 12.40pm.

The game against the Eagles will be the first contest between the two 2020 expansion clubs and the fourth and final game at the Swinburne Centre for the season.

Richmond will then face the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval on Friday, March 26, from 5.10pm.

After crossing to Richmond almost two years ago, the highly anticipated fixture will be skipper Katie Brennan and best and fairest winner Monique Conti’s first trip back to where they started their AFLW careers.

Brennan was the Bulldogs’ inaugural captain and marquee signing, while Conti was best on ground in the Dogs’ 2018 AFLW premiership.

Great, I'm liking our chances against Suns and Eagles :)

We still haven't played Adelaide or Fremantle in 2020 nor 2021. Hopefully St Kilda will win their last 3 games, or we'll lose any chance of drafting Prespakis.

Based on form, Saints should
Rd 6 v Demons away = lose
Rd 7 v Giants at home = win
Rd 8 v Pies away = lose
Rd 9 v Eagles away = Win
which should have them on 16 points (4 wins)
based on form we should
Rd 6 v Kangas at home = lose
Rd 7 v Suns away = win
Rd 8 v Eagles at home = win
Rd 9 v Dogs away = lose
which should have us on 12 points (3 wins)
We should still finish 2nd last of the Vic teams (Cats last), which means we'll have a crack at Georgie Prespakis or Charlie Rowbottom

"The Victorian draft nomination rule (players could choose Geelong, Melbourne metro or Victoria) will no longer be in effect this year. The rule - which gave players a degree of choice if they were unwilling or unable to travel for the part-time competition - was only in place for Geelong's first two seasons."

Geelong traded pick 5 away last year despite being able to draft a player from the Melbourne metro region.
If Geelong don't draft Georgie Prespakis, then hopefully they don't trade away their draft pick away to another Victorian club.

If you think Ellie McKenzie's good, just wait until you to see her.

Think the future of AFLW is in good hands.

Ellie is a jet
Georgie is going to be a jet.
I hear next year's draftee Montana Ham should be even better.

If Geelong finish bottom as expected I doubt they'd trade that pick and they'd be crazy not to take Georgie at this stage.

In terms of our team I hope we win every game as winning gives our whole squad a gigantic boost and where the draft cards fall, so be it.

Yeah all of us that follow NAB U/18's even a little bit know the name Georgie Prespakis and i think Cats made a mistake in trading their top pick last draft which i think they're paying for it this season
Don't think they'll make that same mistake twice, but if they do it will have to be extremely juicy to trade No 1 pick
By the end of the season there will be a few more players C.Rowbottom (Oakleigh Chargers) and A.Lee (Geelong Falcons) to name a few that will be vying for the top picks
I think we'll finish above Suns and Eagles so it will be interesting to see if Vic clubs try to do a deal with them to go up the draft order
Good times ahead as the junior comp is getting better each year

Yeah agree with you 100% TigermanM2 on your post
I would much rather we play to a high standard, get a heap of confidence and be extremely competitive
If it costs us a higher draft pick (like No 2 or 3) I'm o.k. with that, much rather we keep on winning to be honest
The top 5 or 6 Vic U/18 players are going to be very, very good
Lets be Richmond and play our best, rather than Demons who tank in the men's comp for higher draft picks :)
Go Tigers

I'd just want Richmond to play the young ones that have a promising future.

Christina Bernadi is 30 and struggling to get regular games but she still being picked ahead of the younger players. Why aren't we playing for example - Laura McClelland or Cleo Saxton Jones instead. I don't why they aren't thinking long term... it's frustrating.

Cleo has been injured and unavailable pretty much since she was drafted. Played her first game in 18 months last week for Port in the VFLW. Looks like a tall strong girl so really looking forward to seeing her play.

Pretty clear this year that if you aren’t contributing then your spot will be taken as happened with both Christina and Akec being dropped.

You can only assume Laura hasn’t quite done enough to break into the side. Unlike last year with VFLW running along side AFLW she’ll get her chance to impress.

All teams appear to do the same. Richmond said last year that if they didn't have any injuries, our number 7 pick Sophie wouldn't have played much at all?
If she hadn't played, she wouldn't have had that experience and wouldn't have developed as much in the past year.

I'm shocked that Laura has yet to play a game this year - I thought she would have been a certainly.

It is a bit of a surprise but I guess we aren’t close enough and see how they train etc to really know. Might have been in the side if suspension didn't keep her out R1.

I watched the Port v Carlton game and while she did a couple of good things I didn’t get that feeling that she was banging that AFLW door down. McCelland, Sansonetti, Lesosky-Hay, Harley and McLaren were our players that took part in the game. Thought Harley was dangerous when near the ball and I thought McLaren was the most involved over the course of the game.

I think the other problem is where would Laura play? Who's spot does she take?

If Conti is fit this week I think Dargan may make way. I can't see, if all fit, any other changes.

Well that's progress - this time last year we could have named 10-12 names that could make way - that you are struggling is good! More levels to go to though - North showed us that!

If you know what number Saxon-Jones played as, that would be good if you could share that, because the Carlton-centric callers of this game certainly didn't call her on the ground.

I couldn't see one single player in that game whom you'd want in the AFLW side this coming week unfortunately. Emma Harley is a solid girl and has good tenacity when the ball is on the deck but can't kick with much accuracy. Edwards (Carl) ran around her pretty easily I thought at times. She's a footballer in the vein of 5 years ago.

Sansonetti was only thereabouts at that level, should, have carved it up really, though did have a good last qtr. Leproski-Hay not up to next level yet, Hannah McLaren had moments (and is well ahead of Leproski-Hay) but not really up to the next level yet you'd think. Probably the best for the Tiges players was Laura McClelland as far as a possible promotion, but you wouldn't drop anyone for her. Her contest and link up work was good.

A couple of comments on Port listed players, I really like the potential of Elle McDonald (40). Nothing of her, very raw, but she reads the play well, has a great stop and step around, plenty of dash - you would like to see some development put into her and keep a close eye on. TigermanM2, how tempted would you be to swap Stahl for Sophie Locke? Locke is more raw, but holds her feet in traffic, knows where the goals are and has plenty of up and back work and gets to the drop of the ball nicely. I have been a past fan of Stahl's potential, but she spends too much time falling to ground, whereas Locke refuses to go to ground and as a consequence opportunities open up for her. I think Stahl could learn a thing or two from her. The taller girl Beth Wilson (16) could train on - had some nice moments too.

Emma Horne who was delisted last year, has had a great start to the season. She was 2nd best for her side in Round 1, and best for her side in round 2. She was battling injuries last year, so maybe that's why they delisted her??

From the info I've got Cleo Saxon-Jones hasn't played all this year
Through rounds 1-4 she was listed with a groin injury via the RFC site and was listed as having concussion rounds 5-6
Wasn't selected in the VFLW so far, a shame for her, as she was injured all last season as well
In Port Melborne's 2 games, 2 wins, so far, C. Bernardi, A. Edmonds, H. McLaren were in the best in the 1st game and L. McClelland in the 2nd game
An interesting read from the Borough's site about Sophie Locke (20 years old, 166 cm)
"Locke joins the Borough having most recently been a part of the Murray Bushrangers NAB League squad and represented Vic Country in the 2019 AFLW Under 18 Championships where she averaged 6.5 tackles and 8 disposals per game.
Locke had previously played mainly netball as a junior, but despite her relative football inexperience at the time,
was still on the verge of earning a spot on Richmond’s VFLW list in 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic taking hold."
So it looks like we wanted to see how she went last season, so going forward who knows
Ellie MacDonald is 28 years old, 172 cm, and used to play for Hawthorn's VFLW team, i don't think we'd be looking at her

Thanks Stanley - wow McDonald is 28:eek: She could run around in a shower and not get wet. No chance then if this is where she is at at 28, she looks just out of school. She'll be handy at that level though. Locke looked OK, kicked three on the weekend and made that happen. She had good movement.

Didn't think I could see anyone of Saxon-Jones calibre out there. She would be a class above, albeit off a limited base.

Cleo Saxon-Jones hasn't played a game as yet TigermanM2, last year or this year, not even VFLW, been injured unfortunately
Should be available this week, if she's over her concussion, hopefully :)

Nice work.

Cleo didn't play. I was incorrect when I said she played last week. She pulled on the Port jumper a few weeks back in what I assume was a practice match before the VFLW season kicked off. Hope she is doing ok.

I guess we have to remember that commentators have to start somewhere and we have to accept that they'll make a few errors or miss players. It's a tough gig at that level calling players and media like WARFRadio need to be supported. Peter Holden is pretty good and in time there will be some pretty decent commentators coming from WARF. Lucy Watkin is one to watch.

Sophie Locke certainly looks like one to watch. Looks like a player.
I must admit to being a Stahl fan though. Agree 100% about keeping her feet. Love the ball in her hands 35m from goal. Has a really good kicking technique and footy smart as we saw with that kick to Wakefield. I think confidence is the thing with Tayla.

Thanks Stan, concussion was it? Yes just posted that I was off the money on Cleo. She has played at least one game. This was a couple of weeks ago.

Can't believe she plays her first game in ages and gets concussed. Really bad luck.

Yeah was listed as a groin injury, then listed as concussion!!!!
For sure it must of been the practice match v Casey Demons, sadly can't cop a break with her AFLW career :(
Thanks for the info TigermanM2
