perhaps some nefarious person slipped the drug into his coffee and the prostitute was passing by on her or his way to do er...the shopping?

You could ask my wife. She was her dad. I'd prefer not to say exactly, but it involved a robbery gone wrong. Death by misadventure. Half a glass of something and 2 lipstik marks on the glass. It was not natural.
