I just read it again and relised it said Golden staph.. wow it's really serious, you can even die from it.

Golden staph (Staphylococcus aureus) is a type of bacterium that causes infections. In most situations golden staph is harmless. If it enters the body through a cut in the skin it can cause a range of mild to severe infections.

I really hope he's gonna be okay..

If it is REALLY golden staph then there is no way they would allow him to play this weekend. I've been told fit soldiers in the army have died after contracting it, it can really be that serious.

Yeah, depends how bad it is but he could recover from it within a week, could easily take a few though. I'm praying it's not too serious, i want him to take all the rest he needs and definately don't push himself seeing this could be really fatal.

A bacterial infection like that can be cleared up with antibiotics in not much time, I wouldn't be too worried about his health!
That said he probs wont play this week.

But golden staph is very serious, it's not something to be taken lightly. It does depend on the extent of it though. But there's no way he'll play this week.

No its not that serious...
Maybe if he was living in a jungle somewhere he might be in a bit of trouble, but he lives in the city and has medical staff at his disposal 24 hours a day, he is in nothing close to mortal peril.

It is that serious though.. depending on the extent from it. People do die from it, people living in a normal everyday society like we do.

For a fit healthy person in the prime of his life, Amon should certainly get through it. But make no mistake about it, if you're frail and/or an elderly person, golden staph is deadly. That's why when you visit hospitals you should always wash your hands before and after you enter the ward.

There are only a handful of antibiotics that golden staph isn't resistant to, but hospitals are reluctant to use it because eventually it would be resistant to those too.

Common variety golden staph is not serious. You're probably carrying it right now. Although the resistant strains can be life threatening. Those forms are actually quite rare.

Before penicillin, though, if staph got into an open wound & caused a blood infection you had something like an 80% chance of dying, so we shouldn't get too arrogant around the little buggers (hence Amon geting rushed off for treatment - if the Australian is to be believed anyway).

Little known fact, but it was likely that golden staph was the real killer during the great influenza pandemics. The flu would suppress your immune system, which allowed the staph to overrun the body and this caused fatal complications such as blood infections, meningitis and pneumonia.

There's a pleasant thought. :o

That's the same with Meningococcal isn't it? I'm pretty sure a certain % of people like having it in the back of their throats, like golden staph.. where like 30% of all people have it.

OMG!!! How? Why? We need him! One of our best midfielders! and at the most crucial times!!! =.= The infection sounds deadly...

Let's hope he gets better soon! I'm already missing him! :(:(:(

He is one of our best midfielders, probably one of our best players but we will be okay without him, even if it is for like 3/4 weeks. Hopefully Crouch and Davis will be back next week aswell.

I really hope he's okay though.

Yeah, i hope Amon's okay. I agree that he is one of our best midfielders. I haven't watched a match where Amon wasn't playing, so if he doesn't make it tomorrow, it'll be my first time watching a swans match without Amon. i hope the others can cover him well and fill in the big shoes.

Hopefully Crouch can back very very soon!

Apparently he's still 50-50 to play but mind you, i still don't think he will. If he doesn't play Phillips will come back into the side.

I thought you said he was barely clinging to life?

Er, don't put words in my mouth. I said golden staph can be fatal depending on the extent of it. If you knew anything then you'd know that young, perfectly healthy people have died from it. I never said anything about him barely clinging to life.. pfft.

It's all but confirmed!

Buchanan will not play tonight, and is replaced by Simon Phillips. I knew i would see this coming! :( Get well Monty!!!

Well effectively Fosdike is in for Buchanan then. Which is not so bad...
