yeah looking good, every training session i have been to he has looked the goods, although im still not convinced that he will be a regular in the best 22.

he looks fit and eager

I have Foster in my best 22 when I do my team, but then I don't include Mark Johnson or Matthew Carr in my team.

I am pretty sure Harvey will have both Johnson and Carr in his best team and with a fit Schammer and Peake and Palmer coming through Footyeater is right Foster won't be a regular more likely the first choice backup for our midfield.

If someone earns a spot and plays well they will keep it. If they are inconsitent then they will go back to the WAFL. Every player is in the same boat with a new coach on board. It is a good position to be in as a supporter with a number of players fighting for the same positions :

J Carr
Hase
Bell
Schammer
Peake
Foster
Ibbotson
Palmer
M Johnson
O'Brien

thats a fair list of players there when you put them all down at once, the only one i can think of that you missed is crowley. but we have a bit of depth there

We all know that Mathew Carr is probably one of our worst players and isnt in our best 22, hopefully Harvey has figured that out too.

MMMM some interesting comments re Mathew Carr here. Not in out first 22!!!Really.
His season last year certainly was not his best but was far from be terrible. It must be remembered that for most of last season he carried an injury but was not rested. He would certainly be in my first 22.
"We all know that he is not in our best 22",what gives you the right to give an opinion for others? It is not just kicks that count in a game,it is what your given job is on the day by the coach and the coaching staff.
I think so many here do not know how to follow the game and understand that it is a TEAM game.

i agree with you to a point AM and i have a bit of a soft spot for matty, i think that having as a tagger would be valuable too. but i dont think he would be in the 22, probably in the 27 for my mind.

I think your right achorman to a certain extent. Matty Carr has a less than glamorous job as a tagger and because of this is frequently given a hard time by people who don't have an understanding of his role. In saying this though I do think he had a poor 2007. I judge this on his previous years where even though he would play as a tagger, he'd still be able to punish the opposition at critical times throughout games. He seems to have lost that part of his game and looks to be lacking confidence.

He used to be one of my favourite players. The best game I ever saw him play was against St Kilda in the season opener a few years back. He absolutely carved them up that day and it's been rare seeing glimpses of that same form since then.

I'm hoping he was injured in 2007 and we get to see the best of Matty Carr in 2008, otherwise it may well be his last year.

I wasn't trying to give other opinions i was just stating what i have heard other say, i know he is a tagger and doesn't get alota stats. I'll give him credit that in 06 he was good and rarely got beaten, but in 07 he was getting beaten almost every game. Crowley is a much better tagger then Matt Carr and we could even throw Dodd into the middle to tag the midfielders.

Crowley as a tagger!! I don't think so.He was tried a couple of times last season but was not succesful. He is a very good attacking footballer but not a tagger.Dodd is far too valuable to play as a tagger,he is almost as valuable in our back line as Johnno and more so now that we will have to find a replacement for Hadrill and I know Hadrill didn't play much last year.
D/M maybe, but the words you used"We all know" makes me assume that every Docker supporter doesn't like Matty Carr.Wrong.
Look for the name M Carr in the first 22 in the first game of the season and subsequent weeks.
If he is over his injury then he will be a major player for us this season.

fair call.

in regards to hawk. im not sure foster will get enough time for DT

At his price in DT is he to risky then?

Whats he worth this season?

He finished on $117,400 for the afl DT, and $153,800 for the herald sun DT, but I don't know if they start at that price.

At those prices I'd be very tempted to get him as a back up player, but I may consider getting a cheaper draftee like Palmer, Masten or Cotchin who may have a similar return.

Probably try and hold off your team until the nab cup, incase foster makes a claim for spot in the 22

Pretty much agree with all this, especially the Dodd part, anyone who thinks we can afford to lose one of our few defenders who actually plays defense is kidding themselves.

Crowley has a 'the best defense is a good offense' philosophy when it comes to tagging. This isn't always a bad thing, but if we aren't attacking and he doesn't get the opportunity to punish his opponent (2006) then he gets killed (2007).

M.Carr plays more of the traditional negating type defender. His focus is to stop his man, anything else he does we should consider a bonus. I'll be one of the first to admit he didn't have the best season last year but he certainly played his role better than a lot of other so called 'best 22' players.

i think the injury hampered matty a lot more last year than he let on. fact is that he's such a tough bugger that he still managed to not only receive a regular spot in the 22, but was still given the no. 1 tagging role every week.

i mean ffs he did play with a hernia for most of the year!
