I'm a Carlton supporter living in qld and I'm beginning to get very worried over these rights deals. Currently I have foxtel so have been watching every single Carlton game. I'm worried that if 7 and ten sell the rights to some of the games to a company like TVS I will not be able to watch the blues any more. I didn't count but last year in the QLD carlton must only have been on FTA about 5 or so times, so I can safely assume that if the less popular games are sold off Carlton will be among them. That would be an absolute catastrophe.

So I was just wondering are there any other Carlton supporters who are in the same boat as me and if so what are they thinking right now?

First I have heard of selling games to TVS, I haven;t even heard of it so I really hope our games don't go to them. With our position on the ladder barely any of our games will be on FTA but I do think that they will get replayed of Fox Sports no matter which channel gets the games.

The handling of the sale of the rights has been disgraceful.

The initial media spin on the new deal was better coverage for more people in more areas.

This doesnt seem to be the outcome.

Im on the Gold Coast MM3...I also have Austar and watched all Carlton games last year! Really hoping something satisfactory is organised so i can watch them climb the ladder this year!

If worse comes to worse, there is Aussietorrents. Its a site where people put aussie shows on the web. I've seen quite a few home and away matches posted there...its an option. All of last years finals were posted very quickly. I am hoping someone puts them up for the first couple of matches as I will be in Japan until April. One of the main posters is a huge blues fan so we might get lucky. Only thing is, you have to avoid tvs and newspapers until the downloads finish.

In the UK, I heard they have online memberships for the big soccer clubs for ex-pat fans...high quality, fast downloads of matches...would be a great idea imo.

You can watch all replays 24hrs after via the AFL webpage. Its the only reason i switched to Telstra. Atleast now i can watch any game any time rather than waiting for a 3am replay or no replay at all. I'm in Brisbane by the way. They streaming doesnt count toward your download limit either.

You can subcribe if you're overseas as well.

Cheers...whats the quality like?

I'm in W.A. and I'm worried too. We are saturated with an eagles fest over here and I remember the bad old days where the game would only be shown in highlights or "we pick up the action late in the second quarter".

I hate channel 7 for the footy I missed during thier last tenure and they are permenantly banned from viewing, for anything other than footy, in my house.

it's acceptable. I watch it on full screen (19inch widescreen) and it's fine. You just have to sit back a bit otherwise it will seem a bit fuzzy. still very watchable.

problem last year is i dont really enjoy re-watching carlton losses, only wins. And their werent too many. This year we'll atleast be more competitive. Can't wait.

Hopefully by the time the next rights deal comes, the AFL will be able to directly negotiate with Pay TV companies. If the consortium attempts to get on community television interstate, the AFL should use it's right to squash the deal based on being unable to meet the terms of the Channel 9 bid.

Thanks for that...might subscribe so I don;t miss the first 4 weeks of the season. Then I will start going to the matches when I get back. The first 4 weeks are always the most interesting because you can still fantasise about marching back up the ladder....

espn to the rescue.last i heard is that pay tv channels ARE STILL having talks.it wil be on pay in some form, albeit on replay 24 hours later

Wow, thats pretty interesting.
I live in Melbourne, so I guess it doesn't affect me, but I do feel for all the Carlton "brothers and sisters" who live outside Vic and could get totally screwed over by the deal.

I normally sit by the PC and listen to games via webcast radio.

Up around the Cairns area I think we got 2 games aired last year on FTA TV, of which both came on after 11:30pm if I remember correctly.

I think the Carlton's members area on their website should include complete videos of the completed games for we interstate members to download and watch. After all, it's not like I'm getting anything except a bumper sticker for my annual fee.

Like another poster said in this thread, perhaps you could check out the game on the afl.com

The AFL site is plastered with Telstra/Bigpond parasite, i'm a virus, type stuff. I'lll use it to get live scores, etc, but not for anything else.

Yeah...it really irks me when some association like the afl have their site plastered with sponsors, etc. It's not like they actually need the money. Time for them to give something to the fans methinks. I'm not paying Telescum for anything ever again!

It certainly is a worry. I'm in Brisbane and Fox Footy was a Godsend over the past five years as without it coverage of Carlton in Qld was minimal of FTA. There is no way we'll be seeing Carlton live in Round 1.

I would have thought we would be a chance to be on round 1 as we are the only twilight match. If seven and ten don't sell the twilight matches then there will be no other match to show instead

The question is, will they sell it? And to whom? At this stage that is all up in the air. But one thing is for certain, they won't show it live at that time of night on a Sunday.

Well, they may surprise me, but I'm highly doubtful.
