I have just read that Paul Williams has joined Melbourne's coaching staff. In recent days, i have read about coaching appointments at carlton and St Kilda and Adelaide.

Where is Essendon on this. As far as I can see, they have not made a single change to the coaching and football department that saw them finish equal bottom of the ladder with Carlton. The Blues have been in the press heaps since the end of the season (players leaving/staying, coach changes, favourite sons returning). The media have not said a thing about Essendon. How is this so?

I have faith in the recruiting and the list that Essendon has. Unfortunately, nothing is being done to improve these players.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Matthew Knights was appointed as a full time Essendon development coach for 2007. He will still coach Bendigo, but his primary role will be as a development coach for EFC. That was announced some time ago.

David Calthorpe has moved into a full time player welfare position.

A new Recruiting Manager will be appointed after the draft, with Dodoro to move into a list management role. The new recruiting manager is believed to currently be working at another club, hence the reason he'll be starting after the draft.

The medical/fitness departments have also been re-shaped.

The whole football department has basically been overhauled. This was all announced some time ago, prior to the season ending. Probably the reason we haven't been in the press post-season, it was all done prior to that.

We are lucky to have a board who run our empire like a well oiled machine:thumbsu:

Let's also not forget it has only been a season since Mark Harvey and Robert Shaw left and Ayres joined. Add what Longy wrote above and that is a reasonable turnover over a couple of years.

We can't expect results too soon after the overhaul- one or two roles have me intrigued though - List management role; what exactly does this mean Longy 413 ?

I presume it is just a new title for what he already does, however it seems to have been restructed to spread resources more effectively.

Currently recruiting would involve delistings, drafts, trading etc. The new recruiting manager I imagine would concentrate purely on the draft. I think I read we are also increasing the number of scouts in NSW and Queensland. So I'd presume the recruiting manager would oversee these people (as well as those in other states), while Dodoro would oversee the whole process.

Thanks- I thought Dudoro was the manager of the list as you say, but was getting one extra full time recruiting officer. Which basically meant he was still the main man, but now with more help.

Yeah, that is how I expect it will operate. But where currently Dodoro works on not only list management, drafting and trading, the new recruiting manager (full time) will focus purely on the draft. Plus additional scouts around the country.

I'd imagine list management is a projection on not just the following season but something you plan and detail for several years in advance.

I dug this up -

Wayne Campbell and Glenn Manton were at the Doggies yesterday applying for assistant's roles. Two more names to look out for in years to come should they aspire to become more prominent in assistant coaching ranks ;)

Surely Manton only went to satisfy his dole requirements?

Hard to say...he had with him a great deal of literature, folders, etc...although not entirely sure they werent colouring books and learning material for footballers
