A few decent ones left off aside from AC/DC.

Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Hunters & Collectors, The Angels, Skyhooks, Divinyls, Aussie Crawl, Mental as Anything, Sherbert, Easybeats, Masters Apprentices, You Am I, Daddy Cool etc

I reckon you'd need a dozen names on the list to cover most tastes and decades to a more accurate result.

INXS - for me the best band the country produced led
by our best frontman, huge success over years.

Midnight Oil - power and passion

Divinyls - had attitude, my personal fave, wish they'd
reform, great to see them in the hall of fame

Cold Chisel - gotta love the Chisel, early Chisel, that is

Out of that lot Hoodoo Gurus by the a great many miles (especially if you can ignore the fact they ever recorded "Blow your cool".)

From the 5 bands mentioned, Hoodoo Gurus by that far it's not funny. Did anyone else catch the "Stoneage Romeos" gig on ABC2 last week? Has to be rated one of the great Oz debut albums of all time.

IMO the other bands mentioned wouldn't deserve to be in the same room as the Guru's or probably another 100 or so Oz bands.

Still haven't got ABC2 dammit! I saw the Hoodoo Gurus on Australia Day Weekend in 1986 on the "Mars Needs Guitars" tour (It had jyst been released)and they only played songs off their first two albums - sensational.

Midnight Oil would get my vote pretty comfortably. As a live band they blew every other band off the stage back in the day and what often gets lost amidst all the usual line of comment of what a presence Garret was or re their political leanings etc was how bloody good these blokes were as players and songwriters.

Of the current bread, Cog are IMO far and away the best band to come out of these shores. Amazing players with bloody great tunes. Cannot wait to hear what their next album sounds like.

Yep, hanging to see what they come up with on their next record. Hopefully both Cog and Karnivool can achieve some longevity, they both have MASSIVE potential to become legends in Oz, and get somewhere o/s.

INXS clearly, with Living End just making up the numbers. Powderfinger and Hoodoo Gurus are good, jet just ahead of living end IMO.

I vote ACDC and Cold Chiesel in there ahead of Living end and Jet.

i voted for living end just ahead of INXS just because of the crap new singer. if AC/DC was on the list they would easily get my vote, or even gyroscope
