Dear Collingwood,

I do love you really. But you shit me to tears sometimes. When it comes to your business practices, you are right up there with the Commonwealth Bank. Or maybe Rio Tinto. Or maybe ahhh you get the idea.

Let me explain.

So, its a really nice thing sometimes to receive a gift. When someone buys me a Collingwood membership because they know I dont have the money, but they know the club means a lot to me, thats awesome.

Except, when the next year comes round and in spite of them not asking for it, in spite of it being specified as clearly a gift for someone other than the purchaser, you auto renew the membership and charge their credit card. In spite of me having paid myself already.

It makes me feel shit. It makes the person who was nice to me feel shit though they try to pretend they arent pissed off. It is shit. Stop this shit. Stop the autorenew hair trigger. Think what it does to your reputation, and the feeling of your customers towards you. Whatever money it brings in, its not worth it.

Yours Bad Horse.

BH that is terrible. It's worse because it's the club you love that's stabbed you and your mate in the back. Collingwood shouldn't conduct this business practice. Sadly, it's the way the world is going; auto-renew is the way the world has gone. Something similar was what happened to me this year, I discovered I was paying for an opt out policy for my super, insurance I didn't want. Like millions of Aussies I didn't read the one of many letters from my insurance about the opt out policy.

That said, that's not an excuse for the CFC just because the world is becoming more corrupt, they should not use this business practice on us supporters. Simple, cunning stuff.

This isn't a Collingwood thing, every AFL club, including AFL membership has automatic renewal, and I thought it was pretty much common knowledge.

If you don't want it to auto renew, you simply contact the club (or the AFL) and change it.

Repeat, it's not just a Collingwood thing, even the Melbourne Storm do the same with my 4 game membership every season.
