My neighbour behind our place has a dog that barks CONSTANTLY. This morning my girlfriend and i were woken at 3am by this little beast, and after a good 2 months of this i'm at the end of my tether. Ive sent them a letter asking them to please do something about the problem, because it's driving us insane. **** i've even lobbed rocks onto their roof to try and keep them awake seeing as though i'm up listening to the fvcking little mutt bark. Last night however was the last straw. I've shutup for 2 months over this (which is pretty amazing considering i have a short fuse when it comes to this kinda thing) and now is the time to get nasty. The shire (Greater City of Geelong) won't to a damn thing. They said they can arrange a mediation...mediation? all i'm asking is for the friggin dog TO SHUT UP!
Does anyone else have a similair problem? If so what have you done about it? I'm interested in hearing other people's ideas. Now i really dont want to have to do anything to the dog itself, even though it's driving me insane, i just want to get back at these inconsiderate owners. I refuse to believe they cant hear it bark all night, and if i'm going to be awake all night then by hell so are these pricks.
So please let me know if you have any ideas.
thanks :)

It is not the dog's fault. It is the owners. The council are required to intervene. I had a barking dog problem in a previous house and I rang the Brisbane City Council's 24 hour line at about 3am and stood in the yard so they could hear the dog at it's peak. The owners were fined on a couple of occasions. I have since moved house so don't know how much further it went.

Unfortunately my boot is on the other foot. I have a dog that barks at night a lot and I spend a lot of time trying to keep her quiet so as not to annoy the neighbours. The problem is I have neighbours that constantly fight, bicker and scream at each other that usually requires police intervention, and that is what she barks at. I can muzzle the dog, thats not a problem.. I have no idea how to muzzle the neighbours though.

We had this problem some years ago and tried the noise pollution people to no avail. They sent letters and an inspector came out but they usually went off their heads around 2 or 3 am. They lived in a dog run.. 3 of them... at the end of the yard near our bedrooms so when I got woken up i used to call their phone and then they would come out and shut them up... until the next time!

my next door neighbours dog barks a lot.. which causes my three to start..

normally the owner next door will tell his dog to be quite, and then ours will quiten down..

i also found spraying the dog with a water gun (he cant see u do this, though..) shut him up for a while.. but i dont know..

maybe u could try thay?

I wouldn't do that it will only make it worse. Our old neighbours did that to our dog when we were away and apparently our dog still wouldn't stop barking. Ol' bitch neighbour went off and dobbed us into the council. Her bogan prick kids used to pelt crap apples at our dog and then they wondered why it barked at them  Too bad the council didn't care.

Im so sick of listening to our next door neighbours dog. They dont even tell it to shut up which is the worst thing

When we lived in the hills our dog slept outside. She would bark but we never heard it as it was a large block and she was barking down by the back fence and we were at the front. We were on pretty good terms with the neighbours but they didn't mention anything for a while. Then one day when I was chatting to two of the neighbours it came up casually in conversation. I told them I hadn't realised and they should have said something sooner. After that we put her in the laundry at night and there wasn't a peep out of her. Nobody had a go at anybody and it was sorted out peacefully. The solution would be for your neighbours to bring the dog inside at night.

that does work!
my dad did that with the hose to the little **** of a dog next door, cause it barked NON STOP at nothing for a couple of months... it did shut the dog up and hasn't barked since.

The hose gun is pretty close to the fence so i'll give it ago tonight when it starts. I havent seen these neighbours attend to the dog once when its been barking. Cant blame the dog when they feed it once a day then don't do anything with it until feed time the next night. Should kidnap the little bastard and give it to someone who'll enjoy its company. Or maybe call the RSPCA and tell them they beat their dog.....well that might be just a little bad but it would sure give the dog some better owners.

Hosing COULD exacerbate the situation. Imagine this - you soak the little bastard of a dog, the owner finds out: "How dare you do this to my dog", whinge whinge, bray bray, you know how it is. Before you know it i will see some of you on Today Tonight or ACA! ;)

All else fails just use the getting the taste their own medicine by doing something that will keep them awake at 3am in the morning. If they bitch about that, then say: "Know you know how it's like to be woken up at that time". Me well being a uni student, i am sometimes still awake at that time either doing study or just come home from chasing girls at some nightclub.

seeeeee!!! i'm not as dumb as i might look!! :p :p

You could always tell your neighbour about the dog barking all the time at night.

You can rent those collars that spray citrus oil at the dogs face every time it barks. Pretty much guaranteed to stop your dog barking. Once the dog has stopped barking you start removing it for lengthening periods until it will no longer need it.

Talk to your vet and they will tell you who to contact if you want one.

If you really want to resolve the issue you will have to make an written complaint to the council. Verbal complaints over the phone have a habit of being forgotten/wrongly recorded/misplaced etc. Probably a good idea to tell the neighbour first, you never know when you might need them to ring the cops if someone has backed a removal truck up to you front door when your on hoildays.

This wont appeal to everyone, but i used to have neighbours that complained my dogs were barking continuously at night when i was out. I purchased 2 citronella spraying dog collars. Although not cheap, seems to have done the trick. Like i said not cheap, but you can rent them from certain councils too. Depends how much your willing to spend. The local vet ordered them in for me - work a treat.
