If he gets a suspension we just have to move on fast, and start setting ourselves up with those that will play. In 96 the whole Dunkly Court affair was a real stressing point during the week and could have backfired on the club (Though he was the only one of his era who consistently challenged Carey).

I have viewed it umpteen times and just cant see an escape.

It was not that hard and the way Maguire went down shows why St Kilda are not in the GF, they just were not tough enough.

Yeah that easy huh?

no problemo Sid, they have to add some more drama to the GF week, the media can go wall to wall on this one. They also have to seem to following the process, so its not the foregone conclusion that it was always going to be. To much money to recoup from the swans experiment, and to much pressure coming from the NRL nowadays as well.
Swans will win GF and lets say in 3 maybe 4 years you can get ready for the 16th AFL side to be playing out of the west side of town. ;)

Gee Half Back flanker, I didn't know that punching someone in the stomach was now allowed within the rules.

Clutching a bit at straws aren't we??

Where did I say it was not? In fact what is your point at all.

If you can read I said I cant see an escape, meaning I think he broke the rules, and that looks pretty clear.

What I did say is that if you want to play in a granny that does not mean going down in a heap for not very much while your opponents most important player runs around on his own, you got to get up anyway, alah Dermie, and that shows that St Kilda are not quite tough enough to play a GF this year.

There is no evidence it was a punch. He may just as easily have pushed off hard with an open palm, which is what forwards do all the time, and happened to catch Maguire somewhere to catch his breath.

The aim will be to plead guilty and get the charge changed to 'negligent' or 'in-play'.

I agree we should put our concentration onto the game plan and less on this issue.

Did you see a punch? All the rest of us saw was a swinging arm with a clenched fist but not at contact. The only thing we can be certain of is that Mc Guire is not going to have a career in Hollywood when he finishes with footy. Which with his attitude could be sooner than he expects. Worst acting since Pammy Anderson in Baywatch

The MRP erred by ruling the incident to be behind play. It was actually in play because at the time of the incident Ben Mathews (Swans) had possession of the ball and was one kick away from the incident. There's an article in the Australian to this effect.

This is clearly "in play" according to the rules. Tarrant of Collingwood had a similar case where the MRP graded the incident as behind play. Collingwood pleaded guilty but successfully challenged the "behind play" ruling. The Swans will have the same QC tonight that Collingwood had in their successful case involving Tarrant.

Therefore, one good option the Swans have is to plead guilty with a challenge the "behind play" ruling. The evidence will prove it's in play, Bazza gets 125 points, downgraded to 93.75 points with a successful guilty plea, and he plays on Saturday.

But, then again, some eagles supporters would say that if it was accidental/non intentional, he should be fine, ala Wirrupunda tripping incident :D
