Beau Waters

Any comparison with Max Rooke puts Beau right up there ...

Captaincy material:
Darren Glass has indicated that he would like to hand over the reins as captain and play on for a season or two before hanging up his boots.
Before his injury, the smart money was on Adam Selwood succeeding Glass, but that notion was turned on its head after Beau Waters was appointed stand-in skipper when Glass went down with his groin complaint.
The facts are that Waters, who is still as hard as nails but has modified his attack on the ball-carrier to avoid the wrath of umpires, has been outstanding for West Coast as the team's stocks have plummeted in recent weeks.
At 24, Waters, one of the Eagles stars in the 2006 premiership, is approaching the peak of his powers and no doubt leads by example on the field and is at the age where he can relate to the group of young players in the squad but also have the respect of the older Eagles.
Selwood, 26, has been as steady and reliable as they come while Cox, who turns 29 in August, should also come under serious consideration when Glass steps aside.
