Sorry for the horrible delay in getting these results to you just days before the new season gets under way. And obviously due to time constraints there will be no gala event this year. So sorry again ....

Anyways does anybody want to have a crack at the top 10 for 2004 before I reveal them?

A little bit of history for you before the 04 results....

32. Andrew McDougall - 2

Would you look at that?? Such names as Merenda, Taylor, Seirakowski, Haynes, Williams, Wilson....all no longer with the club. A top 10 featuring Jakovich, Peter Matera and McIntosh. How far we have come.

Judd in his rookie year finishing 4th and Kerr in just his second season finishing runner-up. Embley in 20th with just 91 votes and Glass down in 23rd with only 58. Doogs just managing to make it onto the leaderboard with 2 votes and Sampi in his rookie season finishing 27th.

Cousins the rampant winner though.

29. Chad Morrison - 16
30. Brent Staker - 9
31. Damien Adkins - 6
32. Jeremy Humm - 2

Cousins goes back to back. But this is the year we will always remember as the year Chad Fletcher and Andrew Embley arrived, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Kerr and Judd ever present in the top 5.

Chick's first year at the club, a top 10 finish according to us and Jones' stellar year sees him go top 10. A changing of the guard is obvious though as Peter Matera has retired, Jakovich slips to 14th and McIntosh even further to 20th.

Phil Matera in his AA year just misses out on the top 10. But the kids are coming as Cox continues to establish himself in 12th following on from 11th in 2002. McDougall emerges and finished 15th, Sampi in his second year moves up to 13th and Glass takes over from McIntosh and finishes 16th. Staker too makes the leaderboard, a sign of things to come.

BFWCPOTY 2004 Results

20. Mark Seaby - 127
21. Mark Nicoski - 113
22. Sam Butler - 83
23. Travis Gaspar - 78
24. Damien Adkins - 76
25. Brett Jones - 61
26. Drew Banfield - 60
27. Callum Chambers - 56
28. Trent Carroll - 53
29. Josh Wooden - 51
30. Adam Selwood - 38
31. Ashley Hansen - 32
32. Glen Jakovich - 24
33. Kasey Green - 10
34. Rowan Jones - 6
35. Jeremy Humm - 2

Rowan Jones and Kasey Green take huge steps backwards in a bad year for both players. Jakovich ends his stellar career midway through the season to finish in 32nd. Hansen and Selwood are a couple of youngsters on the rise who will be sure to poll more in 05.

Carroll and Chambers, fringe players both out of the club. The youngsters continue to shine with B.Jones, Butler, Nicoski and Seaby all polling well. Gaspar perhaps the fans favourite doing very little for his 78 votes.

11. Ashley Sampi - 322
12. Andrew McDougall - 314
13. Quinten Lynch - 313
14. Daniel Chick - 245
15. Chad Morrison - 192
15. Brent Staker - 192
17. Adam Hunter - 156
18. Michael Gardiner - 152
19. Beau Waters - 149

Waters in his rookie year was a standout to finish in the top 20. Gardiner who led the award after round 1 of course missed the rest of the season? Will he ever stay fit and seriously challenge for the award?

Hunter was consistent throughout the year and now looms as a very reliable third tall in defence. Staker, another of our youngsters moving up the leaderboard. Morrison had a stellar second half of the season, which would ultimately prove to be his last. We love ya Chad. Daniel Chick was his usual solid self but I think his best is still yet to come for WC.

Lynch had somewhat of a breakout year after not playing a game in 03. Became a solid CHB and at times dominated down back, can he break into the top 10 next season? Same could be said of McDougall as he too had somewhat of a breakout year. Bigger and better things to come perhaps from yet another WC youngster.

Samps started the year on fire and was a fixture in the top 10 for most of the year. Just dropped out as his form wavered in the final weeks of the season. Consistency is the only thing stopping Sampi from really making some noise in this award.

10th - Phillip Matera - 411

Another fantastic year from Fido kicking another 60+ goals and leading the clubs goalkicking. Unlucky to not get another AA guernsey. A top 10 finish though is a first for Phil as previously he had finished in 12th in 2002 and 11th in 2003.

Will need to kick another 60+ you would think to hold onto his top 10 spot in the coming year as a band of youngsters look to impress. He is certainly capable though.

9th - Darren Glass - 490

It's no secret that WC got a whole lot better when Darren Glass returned to the side in the first half of the season. Glass took tremendous strides forward this season and now figures as one of WC's most important players. IMO he is a future AA and has all the tools to become one of the clubs best backmen in there short history.

Id like to think another top 10 spot is certainly on the cards in 05 and if he continues to develop like I think he will then top 5 isnt out of the question.

8th - David Wirrpunda - 498

David Wirrpunda was virtually invisible in the first half of the season. One of the many reasons why WC's first half of the 04 campaign went so wrong. There were rumors circling about a possible move away from the Eagles and his form was woeful.

Thank god John Worsfold has the balls to drop our stars. Wirra went back to the reserves and tore it up and was duly brought straight back in to the team. He then proceeded to rack up almost 500 votes in the back half of the season to tear up the leaderboard to his usual top 10 spot.

No surprise that his excellent play coincided with the Eagles fantastic second half of the season and our steamrolling run into the finals. I think Wirra's mid-life crisis is behind him and IMO could be a darkhorse in the 05 BFWCPOTY.

7th - Dean Cox - 515

When Michael Gardiner went down again in round 3 of the 2004 campaign a collective groan went around WA. What we did know was that Cox was good, what we didnt know was that he was this good! After a little adjustment period we all of sudden didnt really miss the best ruckmen in the competition and Gardiners return this season is now seen as a bonus rather than a saviour. That is how good Cox is.

Cox's ruck work isnt as good as Gardiner's but who's is? Cox's real impact comes around the ground where he tirelessly becomes a link man and target in midfield. He is almost like another midfielder as he regularly racks up 15 to 20 touches a game. IMO he now ranks in the top 5 ruckmen in the league.

2005 should be an interesting season for Cox. I can see another top 10 finish next season as DC just continues to get better and better. But with Gardiner back and Seaby lurking, he will want to stay right on top of his game.

6th - Michael Braun - 608

Braun is the forgotten man. In 1999 Michael Braun lost the WCE's B&F to Guy McKenna on a countback. Where did that Michael Braun go? Well guess what? Michael Braun is back...

Braun often gets shuffled to the back of our midfield behind such stars as Cousins, Judd, Fletch, Embley and Kerr, in fact Braun is always mentioned as our 6th midfielder. Funnily enough he finishes behind those same 5 people I have mentioned. But the gap between them no longer exists as Brauny reestablishes himself as a top line midfielder in the AFL.

Braun worked tirelessly all season long and is often the linkman that keeps the well oiled midfield ticking over. No longer will Braun be overlooked and I am very interested to watch if next season he can hold off the coming youngsters and if he can break into the top 5 and past names such as Embley, Fletcher, Kerr, Judd and Cousins.

5th - Andrew Embley - 622

2003 was his breakout year, 2004 was a sigh of relief as we realised that the new Embley was here to stay. Im a huge Embley fan and I have no problems with announcing that IMO Andrew Embley is an AA waiting to happen and a superstar of the competition in waiting.

Finishing 5th despite missing 6 games is a huge statement and backs up his 3rd place finish in 2003. He is tall, agile, quick and strong, has fantastic skills and can play almost anywhere on the football field. He also loves a goal kicking 14 from his 16 games last season.

A major, major contender for the award in 2005.

4th - Ben Cousins - 889

Back to back winner was finally beaten in 2004. But only injury could seem to slow down this superstar. Playing in only 16 games in 2004 denied Cuz any chance of a hattrick in the BFWCPOTY award. Yet in just 16 games and bothered by injuries in almost every one of those games, the captain still managed to rack up 889 votes which was good enough for 4th.

Cousins will be the first to tell you that 2004 wasnt his best year as he struggled with form and fitness but 2005 looms as a bounce back year for the superstar and I wouldnt be surprised to see him win this award for a third time. Underestimate him at your peril....a fit and firing Cousins = BFWCPOTY 2005 champ.

3rd - Chad Fletcher - 1,061

Fletcher was good in the first half of the year and his breakout year of 2003 looked to be well supported with a solid start to the 2004 season. He picked up votes here and there but only hovered around 10th and didnt look like a contender. But all that was before he exploded into one of the best ball winners in the country on his way to his first AA guernsey.

Round 14 against Geelong saw him pick up 27 touches and that followed on with 30, 29, 28, 30, 31, 22, 38, 35!!!! A ball winning machine. But what got Fletcher his AA nod wasnt that he could get the ball, its that he could use it. His impeccable skills and his prolific ball winning ability were a huge factor in WC's surge in the second half of the season.

His charge came to late but with a 2nd and 3rd finish in the past two years and AA nod under his belt who wouldnt pick Fletcher to take it all next season?

2nd - Daniel Kerr - 1,222

Daniel Kerr, runner-up again. What a season by the little warrior and had he not missed rounds 1 and 22, who knows maybe he could have provided an upset? Kerr's ballwinning ability, toughness and work on the inside of packs doesnt go unnoticed by the BF faithful and he was duly rewarded.

Kerr was only BOG a couple of times throughout the season but his consistency saw him polling votes almost every week which see's Kerr record his second runner-up and 3rd top 5 finish in his 3 years at the club.

Can he finally go one better and win the award? He is obviously a major contender and with his toughness and inside work he really only needs to start winning the ball a little bit more to bust this competition wide open.

WINNER - CHRIS JUDD - 1,508

Ben Cousins stranglehold on this award is broken and who better to break it than the reigning brownlow medalist. What more can be said about Chris Judd? The guy is a freak, simply the best midfielder in the competition, perhaps the best player in the competition.

I dont need to talk about his season, we all saw it and we all witnessed his rampaging best destroying teams at will on his way to a B&F, AA guernsey, BFWCPOTY award and a brownlow. But can Judd repeat?

Im sure a lot of you think it's done and dusted but im not so sure. Can Judd shake the brownlow blues and the ever present attention he will get as arguably the best player in the competition? Can Chris Judd get better? Scary I know but it should happen.

Then again Fletcher is an AA and a prolific ball winner, Kerr has never finished lower than 4th in his 3 years at the club and Cousins the two time winner is fit and firing and im sure he is determined to win back his crown. Will Gardiner play all 22 games and will Embley become the superstar I know he can be?

Big year in the BFWCPOTY 2005, can Chris Judd repeat? Should be a whole lot of fun finding out.

Good work Jod.

Was a bit surprised how high Kerr finished, I didn't think he had THAT good a season.

People tend to remember players based on how they performed at the end of the season... Kerr had a fantastic season aside from the last few rounds due to his injury IMO.

I was surprised too, but when I went back and checked my vote tally, found that I had Kerr second to Judd im my own voting.

I think it can be likened to what Judd was saying in an interview on TV about the Brownlow. We have all raised the bar in our expectations for Kerr, so while we will readily admit he has had a good game, and vote accordingly, we dont necessarily remember it as a stand-out because we expect so much.

A guy who would stand out to us all was Glass, as most of us went into 2004 not rating the guy as most do now.
