In the lower income neighbourhood's the big Drug Stores are shutting locations down. There aren't any independent Chemists in these places as the Walgreens and CVS stores put them out of business years ago.

And this is why you support local retailers and avoid letting an oligopoly form.

I make a point of doing so.
Other things you can do when you can afford it;

Refuse to buy Cole’s or Woolworths brand anything

When travelling regionally, buy gifts (for future family birthdays and the like) from local arts, crafts, toys etc… stores, and feast at the local bakeries and markets
