Something different, and perhaps one for the collectors. Was trawling for Pies jumpers and this came to me recently – a reminder of how different the 2010 Collingwood designs were on the back between the PI and the retail. On PI's the stripes were cut off by the Adidas curve motif, but on retails, the stripes were lopped off by their own weird inverse curve, with the back sponsor plonked in the middle. It looked horrible.

Most of the time, differences between PIs and retails were limited to changes in material or collars. The Nike neckbar of the mid-2000s was left off Carlton and Port Adelaide retails, while early Russell Athletic neckbars never seemed to be replicated either.

Can you think of any other notable differences? The gap seems to have closed in recent years, but there were certainly some choices in the 2000s.

GC were notorious at this in their early days:

2017 PI's had a different logo with a shining sun and yellow collar logo.
Retails had a simplified logo with white collar logo.

There are clear differences between 2011/12 logo and the side panels as well.

Oooo nice thread idea!

Here's the first one that comes to mind.

Retail had a simplified collar and missing side panels and half-cut cuffs

Funnily enough the reverse is true for the side panels on the recent remake, the retails have them but the PIs have none. Leads me to a funny story from Gather Round. Was standing front of the hill during the Port vs Hawthorn game and I see a guy wearing a PI over a shirt, which I could tell from the lack of side panels, but I wasn’t aware of an auction or having taken place. Maybe it has and I missed it, but besides the point here. I wait til he walks past to check the number and it’s 45, which I had to google who that was seeing as I’m never familiar with the zero game players and it says Xavier Walsh. I look for his photo and when that popped up it dawned on me, is this guy wearing his own PI at a match? 99% sure it was him but by the time I checked the name and number he was too far gone for me to want to chase him down. I guess I’ll never know for sure…
