That afternoon, I remember heading into the city from Laverton (the hottest location on the entire planet that day, 49 degrees Celsius or something like that), and whilst sitting at the train station (only person there) the mirage heat effect was next level, never seen anything like that before or since. Train A/C broke down on the way
These days the train would stay in service for a bit longer with a busted A/C. That whole heatwave leading up to Black Saturday trains were dropping like flies.

You knew how bad the day was getting when the radio stations cut thier regular programing just to cover the fires. I was at home and was listening and keeping tabs of the coverage.

You could see the smoke from Narre Warren.
That firetruck was dealing with a grass fire. It wasn't the Narre Warren truck it was the Rosebud one.
