CARLTON could be in for a massive windfall from Dick Pratt's will, but the club says it is already in debt to the wealthy patron.

Rumours have swept football that the club will receive anything from tens of millions to $100 million via a Pratt bequest.

Carlton said yesterday it was not aware of any upcoming windfall, and believes it has already been overly blessed by Pratt's financial support.

Visy spokesman Tony Grey described talk of a $100 million bequest as ridiculous.

Pratt has contributed millions of dollars to Carlton, as well as sponsoring the club's facilities in a $5 million three-year deal with his packaging company Visy.

Carlton yesterday continued its high praise of Pratt, with president Steven Kernahan saying: "When Dick came along, the hail storms shut down and the sun came out."

But as for a massive injection of funds that would shore up the club's long-term future, the Blues are in the dark.

The club said it had "no idea" about a bequest, and had never discussed it with Pratt.

"We don't expect anything. He has done enough already. Anything that happens would be a bonus," one insider said.

Pratt's wife Jeanne has already indicated to Carlton she intends to continue her husband's generosity and involvement with the club.

Kernahan said yesterday he was amazed by Jeanne's resilience, and her support for the club.

"I spent half an hour with Jeanne this morning. She's in good spirits considering what's gone on. She's a tough lady and she's more interested about what we can do at the football club in the near future to win the flag. That's typical of the Pratt family," he said.

"She's very keen to help the Carlton footy club move forward, but she's got a lot of pressing things to do in the next few days."

It is not unusual for clubs to receive huge gifts from benefactors both during their lives and posthumously.

To ne honest, I think its a bit distasteful to be talking about his will at this stage. But the media is the media

+1. Ordinary. The club should buy out of any talk of money.

Makes Kernahan kind of look like a gold digger here :S

"She's a tough lady and she's more interested about what we can do at the football club in the near future to win the flag"
bit harsh if true, shes just lost her husband and he wants to talk about her love for the footy club

I opened up this thread thinking it maybe a shade on the ordinary side but hoped for some sort of positive spin. Suffice to say, didn't happen:(

My mum heard this "figure" on 3AW yestersay morning, as I said to her "that's great, but Id rather have him around alot longer than any $$'s"

Sorry guys, I am closing this thread. It's really not the thing to be talking about in here especially today.
Typical of the bloody media to start something up though!
