Does he have what it takes to play for Australia. He is really starting to poor the runs on and once the selectors get over the fact that he is not a NSW or QLD player he will get a run.Do you think he is up to the standard.

doggy i said last season he shoulda been seriously considered for Test selection ... over 1000 runs last year, 125 no so far in the first game this year ... Hodge is a serious talent

I think the belief is that his defence is suspect against the top bowlers as he gets a lot of nicks or so i heard.I dont think he scores quickly enough for the one dayers.;)

As much as Hodge has made runs, he has only done it in two seasons, several years apart.

Lehmann, Bevan, Langer, Katich, Cox, Love, Maher, Law, Symodns etc. have done it several years running.

It's not that Hodge doesn't have his claims to a spot - but who would you drop, and are there other players more deserving of a spot because they have backed it up year after year?

Of the players you listed Lehmann,Bevan,Law,Maher and Symonds have all had there chance and blown it,some to a lesser extent than others admittedly.Katich will be Australias best bat in 3 years so no argument there,Langer has had it although I admire his heart and one I feel you forgot is Greg Blewett. If theres a few injuries this year I think Hodgey deserves a go.His carreer took a while to get back on track after his childhood idol Dean Jones was made to retire but his potentiol is finally starting to be realised.

he already has

i actually spoke to someone last night who works for the acb about who will replace the waugh brothers when they retire
and he is of the opinion that it will be
katich and blewett, with hodge next in line
and that cox is the next opener if slater doesnt take his second chance

Cox actually deserves a chance he has been dominating for years.

Nope, because he's not from NSW or QLD...

PC, Thats not far from the truth!!

Cox has been batting well and scoring a truck load of runs for at least the last 4 seasons (as well as batting well in England) and the selectors have hardly even considered him as another batting option!

yeah, you are spot on
but look at it from the other point of view
whose spot does he take

steve waugh, mark waugh, and ricky ponting all deserve their spot
as does damien martyn, who has worked so hard to be where he is and taken every opportunity

so that leaves the openers, hayden has proven himself, and until the ashes series so has slater

Well the way I see it the starting openers this season will be Langer and Hayden but the selectors will not want a l/h combination for to long so will try and fit Slater in and if as i suspect he is not making any runs then they will have no choice but to promote Cox.Also if Ricky Ponting doesnt really leave his mark on the South Africans I think its time we stop playing him on potential and put someone in who is making runs.:(
